Every great first-person shooter is really a collection of arguments waiting to happen, and none start a fight faster than picking the best FPS game modes of all time. Maps come and go, weapons get patched, and whole franchises rise and fall, but the modes are the DNA — the rulesets that decide whether a match is a mindless bloodbath or a nerve-shredding chess game. So we lined up the formats that shaped the genre, weighed what each one actually asks of a player, and settled the debate the only way that matters: by how they hold up decades later.

The Contenders: Modes That Defined a Genre

Team Deathmatch is the honest baseline. Two squads, a kill counter, and nothing to hide behind — it is the mode that taught a generation how to aim, and it remains the perfect on-ramp for anyone new to a shooter. Free-for-all strips even the teammates away, turning every corner into a threat and rewarding pure mechanical skill above all else.

Then there are the modes built to make you laugh while you learn. Gun Game, which cycles you through a full arsenal one kill at a time, is a brilliant equalizer that keeps veterans and newcomers on roughly the same page. These formats are the comfort food of the genre: endlessly replayable, easy to grasp, and still the first thing most players load into after a long day.

Objective Warfare: Where Teamwork Wins

Raise the stakes and you get the objective modes, where raw aim stops being enough. Capture the Flag — perfected across the Halo and Quake eras — demands offense, defense, and map control all at once, and a good flag run is still one of the most satisfying plays in multiplayer gaming. Domination and its cousins reward the discipline of holding ground rather than chasing kills, punishing the lone wolf who abandons the objective for a better scoreline.

Point-control formats have quietly become the backbone of modern shooters. The King-of-the-Hill idea now powers massive-scale battles like the ones in Wardogs, where 100 players fight over contested territory, proving that a decades-old ruleset can still anchor a brand-new hit. When a mode makes teamwork the difference between winning and losing, it ages far better than any body-count race.

The Champion: Why Search and Destroy Still Reigns

For our money, the greatest FPS mode ever made is Search and Destroy. One life per round, one objective, and no respawns to bail you out of a bad decision — it fuses the tension of a horror movie with the precision of a competitive esport. Every footstep matters, every reload is a gamble, and a single clutch play can flip an entire match. It is the mode that turned Counter-Strike into an institution and gave Call of Duty its most enduring competitive format.

What sets it apart is consequence. Modes with endless respawns forgive your mistakes; Search and Destroy makes you live with them, and that pressure is exactly what separates a good player from a great one. The tight, weighty gunplay that the best shooters are built on reaches its peak when a whole round hangs on one shot. Even as new games chase ever-bigger spectacles — the kind you see in a Modern Warfare beta willing to break its own rules — Search and Destroy remains the format everyone eventually comes back to.

The Final Verdict

Team Deathmatch will always be where players start, and objective modes like Capture the Flag and Domination are where teamwork earns its keep. But the best FPS game mode is the one that makes every second count, and nothing does that like Search and Destroy. It has survived engine changes, console generations, and countless design fads because its core promise never gets old: no second chances, no easy outs, just you, your team, and one shot at getting it right. Fight us in the comments — but bring a good argument, because the champ has held this belt for twenty years.

Our Wardogs early access review breaks down Team17's 100-player shooter: chaotic King-of-the-Hill battles, a refreshingly fair model, and real rough edges.

Wardogs is the rare multiplayer shooter that lives up to its own hype and then dares you to keep playing. Team17’s 100-player military shooter, built by British studio Bulkhead, has already pushed past 200,000 concurrent players and pulled in close to half a million during its beta. Now that early access has opened the doors to everyone, the question for entrepreneurs watching the live-service space and for players spending their evenings on it is the same: does the game underneath the numbers actually hold up? After too many botched parachute landings to admit to, my answer is a cautious yes.

Skydiving Into a 100-Player Warzone

Every match begins with a jump, and that jump is the first thing Wardogs teaches you to respect. Pull the ripcord too early and a sharpshooter picks you out of the sky; pull it too late and you fold into the dirt. It is a small, punishing ritual that sets the tone for what follows. Up to 100 players land inside a compact two-by-two-kilometre slice of a far larger sandbox, and the core loop is deceptively simple: hold the contested ground, keep the most boots on it, and bank the points before the other side pushes you off.

That King-of-the-Hill structure is what makes the chaos legible. Instead of a scattered scramble, you get a moving front line, genuine choke points, and the kind of emergent squad warfare that milsim fans have wanted at this scale for years. When it clicks, Wardogs delivers battlefield moments that most shooters can only stage in a scripted campaign.

No Battle Pass, No Nonsense

The smartest thing Wardogs does has nothing to do with combat. There is no battle pass, no pay-to-win economy, and no cash-shop power creep waiting to nickel-and-dime you into an advantage. Cosmetics are earned by playing, not bought by the impatient. In a genre where aggressive monetization has become the default and a frequent trigger for player revolts, that restraint reads as both a design choice and a business bet.

It is a bet worth respecting. By skipping the grind-and-spend treadmill, Bulkhead is wagering that a fair upfront deal and a loyal community will outlast the churn of seasonal storefronts. For anyone burned by predatory live-service games, that trust is the whole pitch, and it is the reason Wardogs feels less exhausting to invest in than its rivals.

Early Access Growing Pains

This is still early access, and it shows. Servers can buckle under the weight of a full lobby, spawns occasionally drop you into a crossfire, and the sniper-heavy meta can make your first hour feel like a slideshow of death screens rather than a shooter. The learning curve is steep, and the game does little to hold a newcomer’s hand through its systems.

None of these problems are fatal, but they are the difference between a great shooter and a merely promising one. The tight, satisfying gunplay that the best shooters live on is mostly here, yet balance passes, better onboarding, and server stability all need to land before Wardogs can call itself finished. Early adopters are effectively play-testers, and that expectation should be set going in.

The Verdict: Worth Enlisting Early

Wardogs is a big, ambitious shooter with a genuinely fair heart, and that combination is rare enough to reward a little patience. The scale is thrilling, the no-battle-pass model is exactly what a burned-out audience wants, and the moment-to-moment fighting is strong even when the surrounding systems wobble. If Bulkhead holds its nerve through the rough patches, Wardogs could become the massive-scale shooter that trades a viral spike for a lasting community. For now, enlist with your eyes open: you are buying a great foundation, not a finished war.

Cash rules the battlefield in Wardogs. Here are the four fastest ways to farm money — transport runs, pallet drops, Hot Zone holds, and support play.

Cash is the real weapon in Wardogs. Every loadout, vehicle, and killstreak tool you want to bring into the 100-player scrum has to be paid for, so learning to make money fast in Wardogs is the difference between rolling in geared up and scrapping with a starter kit. The good news: the game’s economy rewards teamwork over kill-hunting, which means anyone can bank serious money regardless of aim.

You begin with a one-time $10,000 balance tied to your account — not a per-life handout — and your cash carries over from match to match. That makes early efficiency matter. Spend smart, farm the high-value objectives below, and you will always have the funds to fight the way you want.

Cash the Truck: Ferry Teammates for Fast Money

The single most reliable earner is playing taxi. Grab a vehicle and haul teammates to the Control Zone, and the payouts stack up fast: you bank roughly $500 to $1,000 per passenger just for the delivery. If those teammates survive the trip, that is another $500 each, and you skim $750 for every kill they rack up after you drop them off.

In other words, a driver who keeps a full truck alive and feeds them into the fight out-earns most frontline shooters without firing a bullet. It is low-risk, endlessly repeatable, and exactly the kind of team-first action Wardogs is built to reward. Learn the safe routes to the zone and you have a money printer.

Pallet Runs and Hot Zone Holds

Logistics pay too. You can buy pallets for $400 apiece and deliver them to the Hot Zone for a $2,500 reward — a huge margin for a quick supply run. Better still, if another player breaks open your drop and uses it to build a Forward Operating Base, you pocket an extra $1,800 for enabling it.

Then there is the Hot Zone itself, the contested patch inside the Control Zone that pays double cash to hold. Even just standing inside it drips passive income of several hundred dollars a minute. Combine a pallet run into the Hot Zone with a stubborn defensive hold and you are earning from two systems at once.

Play the Support Game

Wardogs consistently pays out for actions that help the team rather than pad a scoreboard. Spotting enemies, building FOBs and defenses, reviving downed teammates, transporting soldiers, and fighting around key objectives all generate cash. The design nudges you toward being useful, and being useful is where the money is.

The practical takeaway: stop chasing frags in empty corners of the map and start stacking support actions near the objective. A medic who revives, a builder who fortifies, and a spotter who lights up targets will out-bank a lone-wolf sniper almost every match. Blend two or three of these roles and your balance climbs even when your kill count does not.

Bank It and Keep Rolling

The throughline in Wardogs’ economy is that cooperation pays better than kill-chasing. Transport runs, pallet deliveries, Hot Zone holds, and support actions all funnel money to players who move the objective forward. Lean into those loops early, let your persistent balance snowball between matches, and you will never be the soldier who shows up to a firefight unable to afford the gear to win it.

Wardogs players are actively refusing to join the Lonestar faction, convinced the blue team is a magnet for the worst squads. Here's why the stigma stuck.

The post Wardogs Players Are Dodging Lonestar — Here’s the Real Reason appeared first on Bizznerd.

Wardogs has a social problem that no patch note can fix: a huge chunk of its player base flat-out refuses to join one of the game’s three factions. In the 100-player shooter’s sprawling three-way battles, the blue Lonestar team has picked up a reputation as the home of the worst players — and matches are sometimes stalling because nobody wants to be caught wearing blue.

It is a fascinating look at how player psychology can warp a game that, on paper, treats everyone equally. The teams in Wardogs are cosmetically different but mechanically the same. That has not stopped a full-blown stigma from taking hold, and the way it spread is a lesson in how communities build their own myths.

The Blue Team Nobody Wants to Join

Wardogs throws up to 100 players into a contested zone split between three factions: blue Lonestar, red Valkyra, and green Manticore. Whoever holds the central control point banks the points, and the first side to 100 wins. In theory, your color is just a jersey. In practice, players have decided one jersey is cursed.

Lonestar’s bad name started during the closed betas and only hardened after launch. It has gotten severe enough that some matches see delayed starts because participants sit and refuse to lock in the blue team, hoping someone else takes the bullet. When avoiding a faction becomes a group ritual, you know the perception has outgrown the reality.

Why Lonestar Got Its Losing Reputation

A few theories are circulating for why blue became the punching bag. The first is visibility: Lonestar’s blue kit and patches allegedly stand out more against the game’s forested, industrial terrain, supposedly making its soldiers easier targets. The second is map geography — Lonestar reportedly spawns in the southern corner while Valkyra and Manticore start east and west, which players argue leaves the blue team fighting a two-front war from the opening seconds.

Whether either theory holds up under scrutiny is beside the point. The factions do not carry meaningful gameplay advantages, so any edge is marginal at best. What matters is that players believe blue is disadvantaged, and belief is doing all the heavy lifting here.

When a Rumor Becomes Real

This is a textbook self-fulfilling prophecy. Someone has a rough night on Lonestar, decides the reputation is true, and starts avoiding blue. Newer players who do not know the meta get funneled onto the team nobody else will touch. Suddenly the blue squad really is stacked with less experienced players, blue really does lose more, and the myth gets fresh evidence to feed on.

The loop is almost impossible to break with balance tweaks, because the imbalance is not in the code — it is in the crowd. Fixing it would take something like team-assignment nudges, incentives to pick the unpopular side, or a visible run of blue wins to reset the narrative. Until then, the stigma renews itself every match.

The Bigger Picture

The Lonestar saga is a reminder that a live game is a community as much as a codebase. Wardogs rocketed past 340,000 concurrent players at its early-access peak, and with that scale comes a culture that develops its own superstitions. For the developers, the challenge now is social engineering, not balance patching: give players a reason to embrace blue, and the curse breaks. Ignore it, and a third of the game’s factions keeps feeling like a punishment nobody signed up for.

Wardogs just had the kind of beta weekend most studios only dream about. Nearly 500,000 players tried the tactical shooter from developer BULKHEAD and publisher Team17 during its closed test, and the game peaked at 105,774 concurrent players on Steam on August 23. Game director Howard Philpott summed up the mood bluntly: the reaction from the FPS community, he said, has been insane. For a genre where launches routinely fizzle, those numbers are a serious signal — and they arrived right before the game’s September 10 Early Access debut.

A Six-Figure Concurrent Peak Is No Accident

Beta sign-ups are easy to inflate; concurrent players are not. More than 100,000 people playing Wardogs at the same moment is a hard number that tells publishers the demand is real, not just curiosity. It is the kind of figure that gets a game onto Steam’s top-sellers list and keeps it there, and it happened even as the beta shared a crowded weekend with a rival Modern Warfare test. Standing out while a franchise giant is running its own beta is arguably the more impressive part of the story — attention is the scarcest resource in the shooter space, and Wardogs grabbed a huge slice of it.

Why a Three-Team, 100-Player Shooter Landed

Wardogs’ hook is structural. It is built around matches of up to 100 players, but instead of the usual two-sided fight it splits them across three competing teams battling over a randomized control zone on a destructible battlefield set in the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe. That third faction changes the math of every engagement — alliances shift, flanks open up, and no fight is ever a clean one-versus-one. It scratches the same tactical, teamplay-first itch that built loyal communities around games like Valorant and the long lineage of Counter-Strike, while offering a scale and chaos those games deliberately avoid.

What the Beta Means for Team17 and BULKHEAD

The business read here is as interesting as the gameplay. Team17 is best known as an indie-friendly publisher, and a large-scale live-service shooter is a bigger, riskier swing than its usual catalogue. A half-million-player beta de-risks that bet enormously — it validates the concept before a single dollar of launch marketing, surfaces server and balance problems while the stakes are low, and builds a waiting list of players primed to buy in. Early Access on September 10 brings the core 100-player, three-team mode alongside cash and XP progression, vehicles, logistics, proximity voice chat and dynamic objectives, giving the team a monetizable foundation and room to iterate in public.

The Real Test Starts at Launch

A blockbuster beta is a promise, not a guarantee. The hard part for Wardogs is converting curiosity into retention once the novelty fades and the progression grind begins — the graveyard of live-service shooters is full of games that opened huge and emptied out within months. But a 105,000-player peak and a genuinely fresh three-team format give BULKHEAD and Team17 a foundation most new shooters never get near. If Early Access holds even a fraction of that crowd, Wardogs will have earned its spot as one of 2026’s shooters to watch.

The post Modern Warfare 4 Beta Breaks a Call of Duty Rule appeared first on Bizznerd.

Call of Duty is about to try something it has never done in a public beta. The upcoming Modern Warfare 4 test won’t just hand players multiplayer maps — it will include a full campaign mission and Warzone content too. For a series that has run the same beta playbook for years, that is a genuine first.

Anyone tracking how the biggest shooter on the planet evolves should pay attention. Betas are marketing, but they are also a signal of confidence, and this one is stuffed fuller than usual for a reason.

Why a Campaign Mission in the Beta Is a First

Call of Duty betas have almost always been multiplayer-only. The single-player campaign is the part studios usually guard until launch day, treating its story beats as a surprise worth protecting.

Putting a playable campaign mission in the beta flips that habit. It tells players Activision is proud enough of Modern Warfare 4’s story to show a slice early — and it gives the marketing machine a fresh hook beyond the usual deathmatch clips.

Warzone in the Beta: A Bigger Test Bed

Folding Warzone into the beta is the other big move. The free-to-play battle royale is where the enormous, long-term player base actually lives, so testing it early is less about hype and more about hard infrastructure.

Servers, matchmaking, and cross-play all buckle under Warzone’s scale. Stress-testing those systems before the October launch window is smart engineering, and it lets Activision catch problems while the stakes are still low.

What the Double-Stuffed Beta Means for Players

For players, more beta content is simply a better deal. You get to sample three pillars — campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone — instead of one, and you get a clearer picture of whether Modern Warfare 4 is worth a preorder.

It also sets a new bar. If a loaded beta pulls big numbers and strong word of mouth, expect rivals to copy the format. The lesson for any product team is familiar: give people more to try up front, and they buy in with far more confidence.

The Takeaway

A Call of Duty beta with a campaign mission and Warzone attached is a small change with a big message — Activision wants players fully sold before launch day. If the test delivers, Modern Warfare 4 could arrive with more goodwill than any recent entry in the series.

Thirty years after it launched and nearly took id Software down with it, Quake just landed one of its biggest free updates ever. MachineGames and id have released Dawn of the Machine, a brand-new 19-map episode that drops into every copy of the game at no charge — a reminder that a well-kept back catalogue can keep earning attention, and goodwill, decades after release.

For anyone who builds or follows games as a business, this is a small masterclass in squeezing lasting value out of an old property. Here’s what’s in the update, and why id keeps pouring work into a shooter old enough to have a mortgage.

A Free 19-Map Episode Built by MachineGames

Dawn of the Machine is a full campaign, not a token map pack. It bundles 19 all-new levels with hidden secrets, a fresh soundtrack, and a dedicated Deathmatch arena for multiplayer diehards. MachineGames — the studio behind the modern Wolfenstein revival — handled the design, and the confident pacing shows.

The episode is free for anyone who already owns Quake, and it lands across nearly every platform at once: Steam and the Microsoft Store on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PS4, plus Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 through backward compatibility. It’s also on Game Pass and PC Game Pass, which quietly widens the audience even further.

New Guns, New Monsters, and a Peek at Cut Levels

The update hands players two new toys: a Laser Cannon that ricochets shots off walls, and a lightning-charged Super Axe for close encounters. Three new enemy variants — the Rocket Ogre, the Demo Dog, and the Blood Shambler — force you to rethink old crowd-control habits.

The most interesting addition isn’t a weapon at all. The update ships a gallery of archival development material, including rough, never-finished levels built early in the original game’s troubled production. For anyone curious about how a classic actually gets made, it’s a rare look behind the curtain.

Why id Keeps Feeding a 30-Year-Old Shooter

The original Quake shipped in June 1996 after a brutal development cycle that fractured id’s founding team and, as the studio itself has joked, “ruined” the company for a while. Three decades on, id is again working through a rough stretch as its parent company trims and reshuffles — yet it still found the resources to celebrate the anniversary with real content.

The logic is sound. A free update revives a dormant community, pulls lapsed owners back into the game, and keeps Quake visible on subscription services where engagement is the whole point. It costs far less than a new release and trades on nostalgia money can’t easily buy — the same instinct behind the recent Halo: Campaign Evolved remaster. Set against a year when even the new-release calendar looks thin, the appeal of polishing a proven classic is obvious.

Dawn of the Machine won’t reinvent the shooter Quake helped create, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a confident, generous nod to the fans who kept the game alive — and a quiet lesson in how much life a great old title still has left.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is throwing its doors open this weekend, letting anyone jump into the massive 50v50 military shooter for free before it launches in August. It is a smart move — a free playtest right before release is one of the best marketing tools a multiplayer game has, and this one has plenty to prove.

For players, it is a no-risk chance to test whether the jungles of Vietnam can recreate the tense, methodical warfare that made the series a standout. For anyone watching the games business, it is a case study in how studios build hype and lock in day-one players without spending on ads.

What the Weekend Playtest Offers

The playtest hands you the full flavour of what Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is going for — enormous battles where two teams of 50 fight across sprawling maps, coordinating through squads, supply lines, and hard-won objectives. This is not a run-and-gun shooter. It rewards patience, communication, and teamwork over twitch reflexes.

Opening it to everyone, rather than a closed group, tells you the developers are confident in the build and hungry for a big launch-day population. A shooter this dependent on full servers lives or dies by its player count, so filling lobbies early matters more than almost anything else.

Why a Free Test Is Smart Business

Free playtests have quietly become one of the most effective launch strategies in gaming. They generate streams and clips, build word of mouth, and give a studio real server-load data before the paying public shows up. Crucially, they convert curious onlookers into committed buyers who have already learned the maps.

The risk is just as real, though. If the servers stumble or the shooting feels off, that first impression spreads fast and sticks. Opening the gates this wide is a bet that the game is ready — and that the goodwill from a strong weekend will carry straight into August sales.

The Setting Could Be Its Edge

Vietnam is fertile ground for a tactical shooter. Dense jungle, close-quarters ambushes, and asymmetric firefights offer a very different rhythm from the open European battlefields the series is known for. Done right, the setting alone could give the game a distinct identity in a crowded genre.

That is also the challenge. Authentic, grounded military shooters live in a competitive space, and standing out takes more than a new backdrop. This weekend is the first real test of whether the Vietnam theme is a genuine hook or just a fresh coat of paint.

If you have ever been curious about big-team tactical shooters, this weekend is the easiest possible way in. Free access, a full-scale battlefield, and a fresh setting make Hell Let Loose: Vietnam worth a look — and its August launch will show whether the gamble paid off.

The post Dusk Creator David Szymanski on the Golden Era of FPS appeared first on Bizznerd.

David Szymanski built a career on a conviction most of the industry spent a decade ignoring: old shooters got a lot right, and newer ones forgot it. The creator of Dusk and Iron Lung says flatly that “the mid-2000s was the golden era of first-person shooters,” and he backs it up by walking through the games sitting in his own PC library. For anyone who cares about where great game design actually comes from, it’s a useful reminder that taste and influences matter as much as tools.

Szymanski isn’t just a nostalgic fan. As one of the defining voices of the New Blood-fueled retro-shooter revival, he’s proof that studying the classics closely can turn into commercial success. Dusk didn’t just cosplay as a ’90s shooter — it understood why those games felt so good and rebuilt that feeling for a modern audience.

Why the Boomer Shooter Revival Worked

For years, the big-budget shooter drifted toward cinematic set pieces, regenerating health, and cover-based caution. The retro-FPS revival — often nicknamed the “boomer shooter” movement — swung hard the other way: fast movement, high lethality, no hand-holding, and levels built like puzzles you solve with a shotgun. Dusk sat at the center of that swing, and its success helped prove there was a real, paying audience hungry for it.

That’s the business insight hiding inside a design conversation. A genre the mainstream had “moved past” turned out to be an underserved market. Small teams who understood the fundamentals filled the gap, and players rewarded them. Szymanski’s golden-era framing isn’t just sentiment — it’s a thesis that turned into a catalog of hits.

Iron Lung and the Power of Constraint

If Dusk showed Szymanski’s command of momentum and gunplay, Iron Lung showed the opposite discipline: restraint. A claustrophobic horror game about piloting a tiny submarine through an ocean of blood on a dead moon, it wrings dread out of almost nothing — grainy visuals, a cramped cockpit, and your own imagination. It became a breakout hit and even inspired a film adaptation.

The lesson there is one every creator and founder eventually learns the hard way: constraints aren’t the enemy of a great product, they’re often the engine of it. A tightly scoped idea executed with total confidence can outperform a bloated one. Szymanski keeps proving that a clear vision beats a big budget more often than the industry likes to admit.

What His Library Says About Good Design

When a designer this sharp shows you the games on his PC, it’s worth paying attention. These aren’t random picks — they’re the reference points behind work that reshaped a genre. The throughline is a love of games that respect the player’s intelligence and reflexes, that trust you to figure things out, and that prize feel over spectacle.

For aspiring developers, that’s the real takeaway. You don’t build a distinctive game by chasing whatever charted last quarter. You build it by developing genuine taste, understanding exactly why the things you love work, and then executing on that understanding without compromise. Szymanski’s whole run is a case study in doing precisely that.

Whether or not you agree that the mid-2000s were the true peak, Szymanski has earned the right to make the argument. He didn’t just admire the golden era of shooters — he studied it, learned its lessons, and turned them into some of the most influential indie games of the modern era. That’s a playbook worth borrowing.

Bungie just ran one of the most revealing experiments in Marathon‘s young life, and the results say a lot about where extraction shooters are heading. A limited-time playlist called Free Kit Frenzy stripped the game’s high-stakes loot economy down to nothing, dropping every player into the map on equal footing. It made Marathon dramatically less stressful — and in doing so, quietly exposed the tension between mass-market accessibility and the hardcore tension that defines the genre.

How Free Kit Frenzy Rewrites the Rules

In the standard Marathon loop, you bring your own gear into a match and risk losing it all on extraction. Free Kit Frenzy throws that out. Everyone enters with a free sponsored loadout — low-level weapons, healing, and ammo from one of the game’s core factions — and nobody can carry in equipment they already own. Anything you escape with can be used in the main mode, but you can’t drag it back into the next Frenzy match. The upfront risk that normally makes your stomach tighten simply isn’t there.

Less Pressure, Broader Appeal

For newcomers, that’s a genuinely smart on-ramp. Extraction shooters are notoriously brutal to learn because every death costs you real progress, and that fear keeps a huge potential audience on the sidelines. By flattening the gear curve, Bungie gave casual and battle-royale-minded players a way to taste Marathon’s gunplay without the financial dread. It’s a textbook example of widening the funnel — meet players where they are, then let the deeper systems pull them in.

The Cost Hiding in the Convenience

Here’s the catch, and it’s a real one. Marathon’s community has leaned collaborative precisely because shared risk creates shared stakes — when everyone has something to lose, teamwork and uneasy alliances emerge naturally. Free Kit Frenzy melts that away. With nothing on the line, the tension and the cooperation both fade, and you’re left with a faster, lighter game that feels a little hollower. The mode trades the very friction that makes extraction shooters memorable for frictionless fun.

What Bungie Learns From the Bet

The real value of Free Kit Frenzy isn’t the mode itself — it’s the data. By forcing everyone onto a level early-gear playing field, Bungie gets a clean read on how Marathon plays without its economy distorting things. That kind of controlled experimentation is exactly how a live-service game should iterate: test boldly, measure honestly, and decide what the core identity is worth protecting.

The Takeaway

Free Kit Frenzy proves Marathon can flex toward a more relaxed crowd without breaking. The open question is how far Bungie should chase that audience before the stress that makes extraction shooters special gets optimized away. Get the balance right and Marathon grows. Get it wrong and it becomes just another shooter.

Destiny 2 is winding down. On June 9, 2026, Bungie shipped Monument of Triumph — Update 9.7.0 — the game’s final planned live-service content drop. No more seasonal cycles. No more paid storylines. Nine years of active development, done. And yet, if you log in right now and pull the trigger on a hand cannon, it still hits harder than almost anything else in the FPS genre.

That is not nostalgia talking. It is the clearest sign of what Bungie actually built here: a shooter foundation so well-crafted that even in its final hours, it outperforms competitors who are releasing games today.

Why Destiny 2 Gunplay Feels Unlike Any Other FPS Shooter

Bungie’s weapon design philosophy has always been obsessive about feel first. Every pull of the trigger in Destiny 2 is engineered to deliver satisfying audiovisual feedback — the crack of a hand cannon, the mechanical thump of a pulse rifle burst, the sharp hiss of a fusion charge. These are not just sound effects. They are information. They tell you exactly when the shot connected, how hard it hit, and whether the enemy has more to give.

That feedback loop traces directly back to Halo. Bungie spent years refining the art of making a gun feel weighty without feeling sluggish, and precise without being clinical. Lighter SMGs snap to aim with nimble efficiency. Mid-range pulse rifles reward rhythm. Heavy hand cannons punish impatience but deliver enormous satisfaction for patience. Every weapon archetype operates on its own logic, and players learn that logic fast.

Subtle systems underpin all of it. Bullet magnetism and aim assist are tuned to keep combat fluid without removing the skill ceiling. Enemy hit reactions — the stagger, the flinch, the dramatic chain explosion when a critical lands — are calibrated to make even a basic kill feel earned. It is why Obsidian cited Destiny 2 as a direct reference point when overhauling the gunplay in The Outer Worlds 2. When other studios want to understand what good shooting feels like, they look here.

The Edge of Fate and Monument of Triumph: A Generous Final Chapter

The last chapter of Destiny 2’s live-service life began with The Edge of Fate, released July 2025. Bungie positioned it as Year 8 and the launch of a new multi-year narrative arc called the Fate Saga. Sony’s $765 million impairment write-down on Bungie — driven in part by the underwhelming launch of Marathon — changed that plan entirely. The Fate Saga was cut short, and Monument of Triumph became the closing statement instead.

As closing statements go, it is a substantial one. The June 2026 update arrives free for all players and delivers over 200 reworked weapons now integrated into the new tier system, plus 25 brand-new exotic catalysts covering every exotic that previously had none. Every exotic in the game now has a catalyst — a fitting final gesture from a studio that made weapon collecting central to its identity.

Beyond weapons, Monument of Triumph introduces Legendary Marks, a new currency earned by completing Triumphs across the game’s entire nine-year history. Raids, dungeons, PvP, Gambit, destinations, seasonal events — all of it feeds into a new Tower monument where players can spend those marks on previously vaulted or limited-run rewards. Sparrow Racing League also returns as a permanent fixture. It is Bungie treating the sunset like a celebration rather than a funeral.

What Destiny 2’s Legacy Means for the FPS Genre Going Forward

Destiny 2 will stay online after active development ends — the same model Bungie used for the original Destiny, which still has a live player base. No new seasonal content, no new expansions, but the servers run. Players can still farm, complete campaigns, run raids, and chase the weapon sandbox that made the game famous in the first place.

The harder question is what comes next for the FPS genre now that its benchmark is in maintenance mode. The competition is not standing still. Extraction shooters, hero shooters, and battle royales have all tried to replicate the tactile satisfaction Destiny 2 delivers, with limited success. The fundamental problem is that gunplay quality is expensive to produce. It requires sustained iteration over years, not a feature sprint before launch.

Bungie itself is not done making shooters. Marathon is the studio’s next major release, a game that will carry forward the same audio and haptic philosophy that defines Destiny’s feel. Whether Marathon can replicate what took Destiny nine years to perfect is one of the most interesting open questions in the shooter space right now.

For now, Destiny 2 sits in a rare position: a live-service game that outlasted the trend it helped define, went out on its own terms, and left behind a gunplay standard the rest of the genre is still chasing. Log in, pick up a hand cannon, and you will understand exactly why players are still there nine years later.

After seven long years, 4A Games has finally lifted the curtain on Metro 2039 — and the next chapter in the beloved post-apocalyptic series is shaping up to be its most ambitious and emotionally charged yet. The Ukrainian studio, which has lived through the real horror of Russia’s war on their homeland, is channeling that harrowing experience directly into the game’s DNA.

What We Know About Metro 2039

Metro 2039 marks a major evolution for the franchise on multiple fronts. For the first time in series history, the protagonist will be fully voiced — a shift that signals a deeper focus on narrative immersion and character-driven storytelling. The game retains the claustrophobic, post-nuclear tension that made Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light iconic, but pushes the tone into far darker territory. Players will encounter old friends who have fallen to extremist ideology, with some turning to what the studio describes as a Nazi-aligned faction. The world remains the bleak, tunnel-riddled ruins of a civilization that destroyed itself, but the stakes feel more personal and more politically charged than ever before.

Ukrainian Developers, Real-World War, Real-World Pain

4A Games has always drawn from the grim realities of Eastern European history, but Metro 2039 represents something far more raw. The studio, based in Kyiv, has been developing this game while living under the shadow — and sometimes the direct impact — of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Studio leadership has confirmed that these lived experiences are woven into the fabric of Metro 2039’s story. The themes of occupation, betrayal by former allies, and survival against impossible odds are not abstract concepts for this team — they are daily realities. That authenticity has the potential to elevate Metro 2039 beyond genre entertainment into something genuinely meaningful.

What Metro 2039 Means for the Post-Apocalyptic Genre

The post-apocalyptic genre has no shortage of entries, but very few come loaded with the cultural weight that Metro carries. The series has always balanced action gameplay with literary ambition, drawing on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s original novels. A voiced protagonist is a calculated risk — Metro fans have historically embraced the silent hero format — but if 4A Games can make the character feel authentic without losing player immersion, it could be the creative leap that cements this entry as the franchise’s defining moment. As studios around the world grapple with how to responsibly tell stories set in conflict zones, Metro 2039 positions itself at the intersection of entertainment and witness testimony.

The Verdict

Metro 2039 is not just a sequel announcement — it’s a statement of intent from a studio that has earned the right to tell hard stories. With a voiced protagonist, a darkness drawn from real life, and seven years of pent-up ambition behind it, this could be the game that defines the next era of post-apocalyptic storytelling. The tunnels of Moscow have never felt more urgent.

Classes in Deep Rock Galactic

The game boasts a diverse array of mining classes, each with unique abilities that contribute to the success of hazardous mining missions.

The first class, the “Driller” is a master of subterranean excavation. Armed with a powerful flamethrower and drills, they can effortlessly carve through rock and create tunnels, enabling the team to traverse the most challenging terrains quickly.

Next up is the “Gunner” a steadfast class responsible for providing firepower and crowd control. Armed with a heavy minigun and zipline launcher, the Gunner can mow down waves of hostile creatures with ease. Moreover, their zip lines allow the team to reach distant locations swiftly, making them indispensable for navigating large caverns and reaching precious resources suspended above deep chasms.

The third class is the “Scout” a nimble and versatile class perfect for mobility. Equipped with a powerful flare gun and grappling hook, the Scout illuminates dark caves and can access otherwise unreachable areas. Their ability to spot valuable minerals from a distance aids in resource collection, ensuring the mission objectives are met efficiently.

Last but not least, the “Engineer” class is the backbone of the mining team. Armed with a shotgun and deployable turrets, the Engineer can fortify positions and defend against swarms of hostile creatures. Additionally, their platforms provide elevated access points and act as bridges.

In Deep Rock Galactic, the synergy between these diverse mining classes is crucial to the success of every mission. With each player contributing their unique strengths and abilities, the cooperative gameplay experience is both thrilling and rewarding, as players work together to overcome treacherous environments and hordes of alien creatures while collecting valuable resources in the depths of an uncharted planet.

Gameplay

Deep rock galactic is a game that bases itself on missions. Each mission type offers a distinct set of objectives and challenges, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for miners. Here are some of the primary mission types found in the game:

Mining Expedition.: The most common mission type, Mining Expeditions, are all about gathering valuable minerals and resources scattered throughout the caves. Miners must work together to locate and extract a required amount of specific minerals while defending against waves of hostile creatures. As they delve deeper into the dark and dangerous caverns, they uncover hidden surprises and face increasingly challenging enemies.

Egg Hunt: In Egg Hunt missions, the miners have to find and retrieve a set number of alien eggs. These eggs are guarded by aggressive creatures, and players must be prepared to face relentless assaults as they gather cargo.

Salvage Operations: they involve rescuing and reactivating M.U.L.Es (Mineral-Uplink-and-Logistical-Extractor) that have been left behind in hazardous environments. Miners need to locate and activate these autonomous robots while holding off waves of attacking enemies. The M.U.L.Es will then gather and return valuable minerals, streamlining the extraction process and ensuring the mission’s success.

Point Extraction: Point Extraction missions are all about collecting large amounts of valuable minerals. Players must locate and mine the precious gems while contending with an ever-increasing swarm of hostile creatures.

Elimination: In Elimination missions, players have one primary objective: to eliminate specific high-priority targets, often referred to as Dreadnoughts. These colossal and dangerous creatures require a focused and coordinated effort to defeat, making these missions among the most challenging.

Community in Deep Rock Galactic

A lively and close-knit group of miners is overflowing with friendliness and teamwork. The cooperative aspect of the game promotes a strong sense of teamwork, where players cooperate to overcome obstacles and accomplish their goals. Miners frequently develop enduring friendships via shared experiences, whether they include going on perilous mining missions or fending off hordes of dangerous monsters. The community has built its name with friendliness and helpful culture, which quickly provides advice and support to new players

Upgrades and graphics

Deep Rock Galactic’s development team routinely produces remarkable upgrades and improvements while taking into account user requests and comments. The mining classes are further diversified by these updates, which frequently contain new tools, gadgets, and equipment. Additionally, the creators frequently add new enemies cave systems, and mission types, guaranteeing a novel and interesting experience with each release.

The graphics crew has also shown a commitment to fine-tuning the game’s performance and attention to detail. This includes beautiful settings with extensive cave networks, dynamic lighting, and immersive visual effects that heighten the sensation of discovery. The extraterrestrial monsters are also beautiful, displaying a combination of terrifying and unearthly characteristics.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Deep Rock Galactic is a fascinating and well-executed cooperative mining adventure that excels at uniting players. Its several mining classes, interesting mission types, and difficult alien enemies produce a dynamic gameplay loop that promotes cooperation, communication, and tactical planning. The close-knit community adds to the enjoyment of the game by encouraging lifelong friendships and creating a welcoming environment for new miners.

Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter videogame developed by 4A Games. It is the third in line in the Metro franchise and is based on the bestselling novel – Metro 2033. Released in 2019, during the big wave of apocalyptic games, Metro Exodus stood its ground firmly and became a major success. So far, the game has sold over 6 million copies. But, what’s so special about it?

Metro Exodus and other Metros

Metro is a franchise that has made a name for itself in the gaming industry. With Metro Exodus, they went a step further. For the majority of the time, the characters in Exodus venture out on the surface which makes it quite different from the other games in the franchise. You’d expect them to be in the metro if the game is called that, right? With this installment, 4A Games made it sort of an open-world game. Naturally, a lot of fans were worried about this change but it turned out there was no need for fear. Metro Exodus kept the original feel of the games and the suspense with the added element of open-world gameplay.

Story of Metro Exodus

Once again, you play as Artyom. Artyom is a hopeful soldier that believes the world wasn’t entirely destroyed during the nuclear war and that people are still out there. During his expedition with his girlfriend Anna, they find a working train on the surface. However, shortly after, they are captured by Hansa soldiers that shoot Artyom and leave him to die. But, Artyom doesn’t die! He returns to the base and talks with the major about their new discovery. The major explains why they kept this secret from the Metro people and they embark on a journey to find other communities.

What all Metro games manage to nail just right is the environmental storytelling. From snowy plains and nuclear wastelands, as you travel with the Aurora train, to cramped small places riddled with big monstrous mutants, the environment invokes different feelings throughout the gameplay. Even though there are big shootouts that you expect in a first-person shooter, there are also quiet moments with cute interactions between the characters. All in all, the story in Metro, as always, is incredibly well done.

The gameplay

This game, out of all the Metro parts, reminded me the most of Stalker. The open-world parts in Metro Exodus aren’t compulsory but they add a bit of charm. Usually, what happens is that you get some sort of intel where you might find random stuff and you just explore the place. The gameplay is very much still linear but exploring can be really useful to it.

Artyom now has a backpack that you can craft things on whenever and wherever you are. Along with that, during your exploration, you can find many craft items and upgrades that will improve your gameplay severely.

Small problems

The Metro franchise doesn’t have the highest budget so it’s natural for it to have some problems regarding bugs. However, none of them are game-breaking, and it’s unlikely you’ll be that annoyed by them. On the other hand, what may annoy you the most is the zombie-like creatures that roam around the world. They aren’t hard to kill and become unbearably boring after just a few hours.

Why does Russia want to arrest the author of the novel?

The famous Russian author and journalist, Dmitry Glukhovsky, is most famous for his apocalyptic novel – Metro 2033. He also assisted in the process of the game development for all Metro games. Recently, it’s been made clear that the Russian government isn’t too fond of him because of his views on the Russian – Ukrainian conflict.

When the war broke out, Dmitry took it to social media to condemn the Russian invasion calling it “unfair, unjust, predatory,” However, later on, he also said that he is federally wanted for sharing ‘’false’’ information about the Russian army actions. Thankfully, he is currently not residing in Russia and other authors have joined his stance including Sorokin and Ulitskaya.

It is important to note that the game development company behind Metro Exodus is based in Ukraine. Dmitry worked closely with 4A Games for years. It was first established in Kyiv but, because of the recent events, they have continued their work outside of Ukraine. Since then, they have publicly condemned Russia together with other companies such as Bungie and CD Projekt Red.

Closing thoughts

Metro Exodus is definitely worth playing. It brings to the player a unique experience riddled with action that we are used to from the franchise. Along with that, it also looks and sounds wonderful and who doesn’t like that?

Operation Monarch was an event on CoD: Warzone from May 11th to the 25th of May. This event was an attempt at regaining lost popularity by riding the buzz of the Godzilla vs Kong movie.

What was Operation Monarch?

The event was a big-scale challenge to players. There were 60 players in each event match, each team consisting of 4 players. Squad members could revive as long as at least one member was alive. Completing all the challenges would earn them a Legendary blueprint: SVT-40 “Ancient Rivalry”. Each completed challenge rewarded the players with rare, epic, and legendary items.

During Operation Monarch, the player had to choose a side: King Kong or Godzilla. It didn’t matter which side they chose as it all depended on the performance of each team. The challenges were as follows: to deal 1,350,000 damage to their opposing monster during the Titan Frenzy events, to deal 500,000 damage to Titans, to play Operation Monarch for 6 hours (they knew exactly what they were doing with this challenge), to collect 3,000 Monarch Intel, to use the titan S.C.R.E.A.M device kill streak once and thrice, and finally to place top 30% 12 times. All these challenges were carefully curated to ensure player retention.

It was a very well-integrated event with a large budget. However, did it regain Warzone’s popularity as they hoped?

What Operation Monarch did for CoD: Warzone

Sadly, the event was a major flop for the Call of Duty franchise. Many players criticized that the event took away from the realism that CoD always delivers. It was an undisputed loss as the CoD account took to Twitter and asked the fans directly whether it was good or bad. The results were painful; 70% of people said it was an “L” rather than a “W”. The event underwhelmed every Warzone player. It just seems that games such as Warzone, which aims for realism in its gameplay, will not do well with such alien crossovers where it completely changes the game into something else.

Many players didn’t even bother tuning in for the event as they already knew that Warzone’s time in the spotlight was over. However, don’t let this fool you. CoD: Warzone is still one of the biggest battle royale games around as of now. Its time in the first place has ended. Warzone now joined the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends- where it stands as an established game with a core loyal fanbase.

Closing thoughts

This event was not successful in any way. However, it did prove something right. You cannot force things into a game. The crossover was too much of a stretch for such a realistic game. They took a risk and paid the price for not succeeding. Hopefully, CoD and other games learn from this mistake and always aim to withhold their usual game feel even when introducing new events.

Valorant has taken the stand as one of the most played games in 2022. With this comes the necessity for the best fps (frames per second) possible. Everyone knows: the better the fps, the better you play. This is because you simply see the game run more smoothly and have more frames of opportunity to shoot your opponent. A good fps is mandatory to be anywhere near decent at Valorant. Here is how you can achieve the best fps possible.

Valorant’s settings

You can boost your fps by a reasonable amount most of the time just by turning down your graphics settings (Note that this is mostly for players who get below 100 fps). If your game already runs anywhere above that: turning down settings won’t increase the fps a significant amount because your system can run the game smoothly with the higher settings already. However, do keep in mind that turning off certain settings such as the shadows may jeopardize your gameplay as you will no longer see your opponents’ shadows. Turning off or lowering most other aesthetic settings will increase your fps but make will make your game lose the crisp quality it had. Another thing that may be limiting your fps is the “limit fps” setting. Be sure to turn this off to get the highest fps.

That was the simple manner of boosting your fps. If that wasn’t good enough for your needs, there is also another way to increase your fps- and that is to optimize the way your computer runs Valorant.

PC Optimisation for higher fps in Valorant

Now there is a tough pill to be swallowed here. If your PC is simply not good enough to run Valorant effectively, no amount of optimization can really enhance the fps. Make sure your PC has at least the minimum requirements to run the game. These are listed below:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz / AMD Athlon 200GE

RAM: 4 GB

OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

GPU: Intel HD 4000 / Radeon R5 20

VRAM- 1000 MB

If you have these or anything better than these, your PC should be able to run Valorant. However, it will run very poorly. The recommended specs are as follows-

Processor: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz / AMD FX-6100

RAM: 4 GB

OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

GPU: GeForce GT 730 / Radeon R7 240

VRAM: 1000 MB

Your PC should be able to run the game decently well if you have the specs above or anything better. If your PC does not meet the requirements, it’s time to upgrade to something better. If it does, great! Now we can move on and talk about how you can optimize your PC while playing Valorant. The first thing to make sure of is to close any unnecessary applications that may be running in the background. Having lots of applications running at the same time can significantly drag your performance down. There are also some ways to optimize the way your PC runs the game by changing some settings.

For NVIDIA users:

Search for “adjust image settings” under the 3D Settings category

Click on the “Use my preference emphasizing”, move the slider to performance and click apply.

Some more steps you can take to improve fps are:

Go into “manage 3D settings”

Click “program settings” and add settings for Valorant

Configure these settings-

Antistrophic Filtering – Off

Antialiasing – Off

Refresh Rate – Controlled by Program

Energy Mode – Maximum Performance

Low Latency Mode – On

Multi-Frame Sampled AA – Off

Vertical V-Sync – Off

Pre-Rendered Frames – 1

Ensure that your drivers are up to date for Valorant by going into G-Force Experience

For Windows users:

Launch Valorant and open “Task Manager”

Click “Details” in the tab section and search for “Valorant-Win64-shipping.exe and right-click on it, click “Set-Priority” and set it to “High”

Redo steps 1 and 2, but this time search for “Valorant.exe” and set the priority to High. (Note that you will have to do this every time you reopen Valorant.

That concludes the things you can do to get the best fps on Valorant. If none of these does enough for you, consider getting a better PC or just a monitor with a higher refresh rate. Only get a better monitor if you can see that the fps that your PC runs are higher than your current monitor’s refresh rate.

At a point, labeled the CSGO (Counter-Strike GO) killer, Riot Games’ VALORANT has taken a lot of active players since release. Having attracted a great many players from other online FPS shooters, the recently released title seems to be growing in popularity.

CSGO, which has seen a number of iterations through the years, is the favorite online shooter title of a number of avid gaming fans. This is evidenced by the fact that the game enjoys a strong esports following and it is one of the top esports titles in the world. Valorant has been touted as the game that has the potential to unseat CSGO as the top first-person shooter.

With Valorant increasingly gaining user’s momentum, talk of it eventually usurping CSGO as the go-to FPS exports title. We threw together a comparison of the two games to see which comes out ahead in this fan-created feud.

Updates of CSGO and Valorant

Seeing as gameplay between the titles is quite similar we looked at things that gamers would find essential to sustained game enjoyment. Regular updates are rather key to the effect.

Valorant has been quite consistent with updates since its release in June. The game’s developer releases small updates to clear bugs and other issues on a fortnightly basis, whereas CSGO updates are a bit more sporadic. This is to be expected, however, as Valorant is a far younger game than CSGO is, and naturally requires more patching up.

Content between CSGO and Valorant

CSGO seems to win this category as it fosters a more open content environment, enabling players to create and sell their own weapon skins, maps, and other content. Valorant, on the other hand, keeps content creation and sale exclusively in the hands of the company, which many patrons may find restrictive. That having been said (or written, rather,) for some players it’s about the action.

ESports

CSGO has been at it for over 20 years, so they’re a lot more well-heeled in this arena. The game hosts ESEA, and FPL tournaments, so players, whether in teams or in solo play, are never without something to do.

Valorant, being fairly new, doesn’t have as big an esports game plan set up yet. They have introduced something novel though, filling the export gap with a host of small cup tournaments – to keep things lively.

By The Numbers?

As of June, of this year, Valorant was clocking in at about 14 million players per year, a lot stronger than the 3 million players it logged when it had just been released. Still, this is a far cry from CSGO’s 27 million monthly active player average. So by recent numbers, CSGO is still the more popular of the two titles.

That is not to say it will stay that way, as Valorant has gained a large following in a short amount of time. The tables could still turn in Valorant’s favor, as a new age of gaming continues to take root in gaming culture.

If you like CS:GO we recommend to try CS:GO roulette as well. CS:GO roulette is a surprisingly simple game to play. Simply choose how much you want to bet, and then spin the wheel. If your skin appears on the winning section of the wheel, you’ll double your money! Otherwise, you’ll lose your bet.

Developed using the Unreal gaming Engine, Belgian videogame house, Cyborn‘s upcoming VR title, Hubris promises to emerse gamers in a vivid, strikingly beautiful, alien world. Set for release in the fourth quarter of 2021, Hubris may be one of the best rendered VR titles slated to go public this year.

Set to be released in the Northern Hemisphere’s fall, Hubris VR is a bit of an enigma, as aside from a trailer and some promotional lines, we don’t have much to go on regarding gameplay. The game’s visuals however, have set many a critical tongue wagging with excitement at the title’s impending release.

Slated to release on PlayStation VR, Steam VR, and Oculus platforms, the VR First-Person-Shooter puts the player in the virtual hands of a recruit of a multi galactic organization known as the Order Of Objectivity. Said recruit is sent to a stunningly designed world, in search of an Agent of theirs. Aided by a pilot named Lucia, one gets a complete VR workout, interacting with the landscape and water while combating the Order Of Objectibity’s enemies – all while the planet is being Terra-Formed.

The Sci-Fi theme shines through quite conspicuously as the gaming stable’s latest title will be released in episodes. The first episode’s trailer footage offers an impressive glimpse into what players can expect. With help from Unreal gaming engine, players will move through his, vividly realistic, hostile environment, trying to survive exhilarating fire fights, explosions and various other perils, while pausing to solve puzzles, and make friends who help uncover the OOO’s dirty laundry

Why We’re Excited

Hubris’ visuals set it among a handful of VR titles that are visually worth writing home about. This title joins a pantheon populated by few; Arizona Sunshine, Half-Life: Alyx, and Phantom: Covert Ops are recent visual masterpieces that spring to mind.

About Cyborn

Cyborm Games is a 3D animation/app studio based in Antwerp, Belgium. The firm was founded by current CEO, Agemans Cyborn, way back in 1998. At first, the firm was a 3D animation firm, like Pixar, but has since moved into other fields, such as VR apps, and for-hire work in the medical, film, and gaming industries.

Hubris is the latest in a series of releases (apps, games, animated series, etc, these guys are busy,) and is set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year. The game will be followed by an accompanying miniseries called Terra-former.

Rounding Off

Coming from a firm that prides itself on being at the forefront of technology, Hubris is a VR title that really got critics beside themselves with anticipation. With a trailer that indicates that the game will really deliver on the excitement factor, who wouldn’t?

If gameplay – which we still know nothing about – is anything close to other titles in its league, intuitive, and realistic, then Hubris seems to promise a hell of an immersive experience. Here’s hoping it sets the tone for classic gaming series.
