World of Warcraft: Here’s What It’s All About

A brief overview/review of the World of Warcraft

Set in the magical world of Azeroth, World of Warcraft with its massive amount of content sure has something to offer for each and every one. It has all you need in a fantasy game: creating a customized character then entering a beautifully detailed world with an unbelievable amount of variety along with millions of people.

Released in 2004. by Blizzard Entertainment, WoW is one of the largest MMORPG’s going strong even today with 115 million monthly subscribers and 3 million daily players. Just recently it lost its title of the most popular MMORPG to Final Fantasy 14. The latest expansion, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, was released last year.

What does the game have to offer?

World of Warcraft is so amazing because of the number of options it gives to everybody which ensures that you will find something for yourself. The most important choice you will make is deciding on a class. There are 12 different ones and each one of them has 3 talent trees which further expands the customization of your character by spending talent points on different spells of your liking. Other choices you make during the process of making your characters are faction and race. The factions are Horde and Alliance which have been fighting against each other since the dawn of time. They can’t communicate or form groups together. Race affects the appearance of your character, the starting zone, and some racial abilities.

Upon entering the world the amount of content seems almost overwhelming. The game is based on 24 books which gives WoW its exquisite lore. It provides countless quests with the most beautiful stories, dungeons, and raids with a deep history. This is the PvE (player vs environment) aspect of the game. For those who want some action versus real players, there are different game modes such as duels (1v1 in a controlled environment), arenas (which range from 2 players a team to 5), battlegrounds, and world PVP. Other smaller aspects include professions, mounts, battle pets, etc.

World of Warcraft is still subscription-based

The starter version offers any new player to create multiple characters and level them up to level 20 for free, which is a great way to test out the game and see if you actually like it before paying anything.

To play the full game, you have to pay a $14.99 monthly subscription.

A lot of new players that want to get into WoW are discouraged by the subscription fees, but why does World of Warcraft still have them? It provides a lot of new content, maintenance, updates to the game, and an active staff/GM team that’s ready to help. With each update, we get new dungeons, arenas, and raids.
Another option to play the game without a subscription is the WoW token. It is a special form of currency used in-game. Players can buy them with real money and sell them in an in-game auction house, where others can spend in-game gold to buy the token and redeem 2 months subscription time.
Interesting fact: The virtual gold in World of Warcraft is almost seven times more valuable than real cash from Venezuela.

Overall, WoW is an amazing game that has been around for a long time. I’ve played it since I was 8 years old and now I am 24. I haven’t yet come across a game that is so in-depth and which has kept me entertained for a very long time. It is also beginner-friendly for new gamers because of the tutorials it provides. However, the best part is the community. Since the game is time-consuming, you will definitely meet a lot of amazing people along the way. The bonds made in WoW, especially in the guilds, are the hidden gem of the game.
