Player versus Player combat was one of the most satisfying parts about weekend arcade visits or playing on console with friends. If you agree, then Shadow Fight Arena is one of the coolest ways to relive that youthful excitement – on your mobile.
Released in 2020, Shadow Fight Arena is the fourth offering from the series and has continued down the path of high detail landscape, and character design – having abandoned the 2D animation style with the third instalment.
The Biggest Differences
Beyond graphics, the creator of the Shadow Fight series added a few other neat additions to the gameplay.
These additions begin with a wider assortment of characters to unlock and utilise to try to defeat your opponent – which include legendary characters from the Shadow Fight series.
Apart from adding on to the character list, the “Arena” edition of Shadow fighter has opted to go without a story mode. However, there are a number of challenging side quests for players to enjoy, while improving their skills.
As mentioned before, the series has gone for a more modern approach to graphics rendering – which is an important part of how the game feels, and this game is quite stunning.
As for the actual playing of the game, has made a few changes here too. Fights happen in a three versus three format, and players are now able to choose their characters as opposed to choosing a weapon. Each player is to choose one fighter at a time, with the losing player having one of their fighters eliminated.
There is an element of strategic planning that goes into character choice, as each character will be equipped with their own weapon, and will rely on a unique set of combos, and basic attacks. This uniqueness of the characters means that some fighters may be more effective against others, adding a layer of objective oriented tailoring to how players choose their fighters.
Getting into the groove of fighting should not be too difficult a task, as the gameplay isn’t about lengthy, overly complex combos. Instead, victory – in this game – is most likely to go to the player who focuses most on the timing of their attacks. Patients and adaptability are key to success in this game of simplistic attacks.
As simpletic as the game is, it is a thoroughly enthralling experience. From the tension, to the sudden feeling of panic apon miss-timing an attack – this might be the very definition of “less is more”.
A Quick Summary
Shadow Fight Arena is a beautifully crafted combat game that takes PvP on mobile to new heights. The only real downside to this game are the usual annoyances that accompany the Free-to-Play offerings, and the numerous microtransactions.
All in all, gamers from multiple age groups and preferences can get the hang of this title, and really get some good butt kicking pleasure out of it. Few things are quite as enjoyable as beating a human player at hand to hand combat.
