The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt marked a remarkable expansion of CD Projekt Red’s tale. The game is on a genuinely gigantic scale, but it nevertheless pays attention to even the smallest of details. Story, mechanics, art, music, action, and lore all appear to blend together into one stunning whole in this game, which sees its hero, Geralt of Rivia, completely shift from the sword-swinging Mr. Loverman of the first game into a mature, contemplative hero. It establishes a new standard for the genre as the best fantasy role-playing game of its kind since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök are just two of the incredibly high-caliber games that have been released in the past 12 months. Yet, The Witcher 3 in its finished form competes head-to-head with the top games of 2022. The Witcher 3 has aged elegantly, and this updated edition just confirms that.

Update notes

Developer CD Projekt Red has released patch notes for The Witcher 3’s next-generation update, confirming some of the aesthetic improvements and changes made to the title.

These next-gen patch notes, which have gone live on the 14th of December for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms, outline many of the changes. However, notes for last-gen versions won’t be available for some time.

Changes made to Witcher 3 next-gen update

There are many visual improvements to explore. Ray tracing, 4K upscaling, and a number of mods intended to “enhance visuals and overall game quality” are all included in the update. You can check the list of mods below:

• HD Monsters Reworked by Denroth
• Immersive Real-time Cutscenes by teiji25
• Nitpicker’s Patch by chuckcash
• World Map Fixes by Terg500

Along with these mods, they have also added Full Combat Rebalance 3 by Flash_in_the_flesh. However, they have changed the mod from its original form.

New and shiny things that you can wear in the Witcher next-gen update!

In terms of fresh material, CD Projekt Red has revealed a brand-new side quest called In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow. It is currently available in Velen and will reward players with items from the Netflix-exclusive Witcher series.

The Dandelion and the infamous Nilfgaardian armor sets, which were also influenced by Netflix’s The Witcher, now have alternate appearances thanks to the patch.

Along with these interesting additions, players also received multiple items that will improve their gameplay. They may be a bit boring but some of these will save your life eventually! The changes include rapid sign-casting, a better map filter, and more forgiving fall damage. The patch also resolves a number of problems that made it impossible to complete a few tasks.

Although the full patch notes provide a more thorough breakdown of the update, CD Projekt Red stated that the modifications described are “only the highlights,” which implies that there are additional adjustments that have not yet been made.

In the gaming world, the game that got this franchise an uncountable amount of recognition is Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. I can easily say it is one of the best RPGs out there. Taking into consideration that CD Projekt Red was just a small Polish developer not that long ago, Witcher 3 was the masterpiece no one expected.

Usually, most players started with the third part cause it wasn’t a necessity to play the first two parts in order to enjoy the third installation. Amazed by the Wild Hunt, some of them decided to take on the first two parts. The second Witcher is somewhat playable and when you get to the first part… You will probably wonder what pile of garbage is this. However, even though CD Projekt Red is preparing a new Witcher game for us, they’ve also recently announced that they are working on a Witcher 1 remake in Unreal Engine 5.

Everything we know so far about the Witcher remake

The Witcher Remake is still extremely early in its production process, as you can see in the announcement Tweet, thus CD Projekt Red is already pleading for patience as it will be years before it is released.

Fans of the franchise are already accustomed to having patience given how far away The Witcher 4 is, so that part should be obvious. However, it seems likely that at this point we can’t truly hope for The Witcher Remake to release before 2025.

The original game

The opportunity for the story to change is obviously quite large. CD Projekt Red is completely rebuilding the game, but we can still draw some fairly firm conclusions based on how events unfolded in the previous Witcher game.

It presents a story that is a little bit simpler than that of The Witcher 2 or 3. Triss Merigold and other allies are attempting to assist Geralt’s recovery from amnesia as a battle between religious extremists and elven freedom fighters is happening.

Comparatively speaking to the games that came after, the first Witcher game is garbage; it has clumsy controls and much inferior production quality.

In Witcher 3, the fighting, which was a weak aspect in the original, had much improved. We predict that the combat in the remake will be even better.  However, one thing we’re curious to know is whether it will share the gameplay of The Witcher 4 or will it have its own separate path.

Conclusion

Well, the only conclusion we can draw so far is that it’s way too early to say anything. This announcement caught everyone by surprise, but we are sure it was a pleasant one. Only thing we can do right now is for CD Projekt Red to drop more information about the Witcher remake.

Henry Cavill and the Witcher

The Netflix series “The Witcher” introduced us to our roving monster killer Geralt of Rivia in 2019. Henry Cavill, who portrayed this character, with white hair and strong golden eyes, had a wonderful demeanor. The actor was also a huge admirer of the books and video games. So, when he was cast in the series, his wish came true.

Cavill once acknowledged that this isn’t really a job to him, but rather the realization of his childhood dreams. Even his stunning co-star Freya Allan referred to him as “the Witcher’s encyclopedia.” When you enter something full of joy and hope, what can go wrong? Unfortunately, after the third season that will air in the summer of 2023, Henry will no longer play the role of Geralt. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will take on the reigns.

What Cavill had to say

Henry Cavill’s exit from the series, which made headlines, devastated The Witcher fans’ hearts. He convinced the audience that he was made for the character of Geralt of Rivia because of his intense passion for the story and the game. The 39-year-old celebrity used Instagram to share the information with his followers.

Fans speculations about Henry quitting as the Witcher

The first speculation that was flying around was that Henry quit in order to star in the new Superman movie. Although, we don’t think that’s the case. Over the years, Cavill managed to fit in many other projects while filming the Witcher. Just recently, we saw Enola Holmes 2 premiere on the small screens. So, what happened then?

We, as well as a good portion of other fans, believe Netflix is here to blame. In an interview long back, Cavill said as long as the showrunners stay faithful to the source material, he will be more than happy to portray Geralt. The first season of the Witcher was somewhat similar to the books, excluding the bad casting. However, the second season was a disaster. A completely new storyline, more bad casting, and ruining the Yennefer character have probably pushed Cavill over the edge. Along with that, we got some sneak peeks into next season’s castings… And they’re terrible once again.

The White Wolf will now be played by Liam Hemsworth. Cavill expressed his delight to see Hemsworth playing this intriguing role and announced that the Australian actor will take over the fourth season. However, fans aren’t too happy about this. A lot of them could only imagine Henry in this role and this change will be a problem for them. A good portion even said that they will no longer be watching the Witcher and expressed their grief and anger at Netflix. One product of that anger is this petition that was signed over 200000 times

We’re happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.
This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.
At this point, no further details regarding the game — such as a development time frame or release date — are available.

From the photo that they posted, it’s evident that the new game will be about the school of the cat. This comes as no suprise since the development team confirmed long ago that everyone’s favorite protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, won’t be featured in future games.
Another interesting and new thing is that they are moving from REDengine. Since this has been a staple of CDPR through all these years, everyone is kind of uncertain of what the future brings. However, they will still be using RED for Cyberpunks expansion. Of course, there are only so many things that you can do in engine RED. So, it’s logical that they’ve moved on to something completely different.

Possible issues

The first concern many fans of the previous Witcher games have is the big change in the development team. After Witcher 3, a lot of staff members changed. With that in mind, the new game will probably look a lot different than its predecessor. Is it a good or a bad thing? Opinions are mixed.

And the second concern is the possibility of CDPR repeating their mistake. Cyberpunk was announced way too early. That resulted in the development team postponing the release date a lot of times. When the game finally came out, it was filled with bugs. Giving a lot of heavy promises didn’t end well for them either. Because so many players were furious about the game, Sony removed it completely from their store.

Conclusion

Will the game be multiplayer or singleplayer, will the main character be someone from the lore or will we be able to make our own, when’s the game to be expected… There are a lot of questions on our minds right now. So, all we can do is wait for more information from CDPR or a possible trailer.

Lets start with the beginning..

Electronic Arts

EA were among the several big names that decided to go rogue and do their own thing this year, and because this is EA we are talking about here, they wanted to spoil the build-up and start a day early which failed miserably because it ended with an shouting match. The big story of course, was Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, which is set for release on the 15th of November this year. We were treated to almost 15. minutes of game play and it was OK, kind of.., It was OK. hmm…

Also on the menu we had Battlefield 5., where we’ll be touring the Pacific in autumn this year so that’s fun but as for the rest …Well Fifa’s volta mode is basically FIFA street and also the Sims 4. showed up with nothing special, well they were driving speedboats…. I said, nothing special.

MICROSOFT

Keanu Reeves appeared and he was genuinely excited to be there which is a rare thing indeed for any celebrity E3 appearances. The fact that this was a highlight of the show says … a lot.

We had a whole bunch of games to get through and we tried, we really did. But, with our best efforts to keep up, we didn’t make it. Obsidian entertainments the Outer World, one of the more exciting new IPs kicked things off and we got a release date being 25th of October 2019. Game play looked alright too, so that’s something – and thankfully that trend would continue with Cyberpunk 2077. which is set to see the light at 16th of April 2020.

Also, Gears 5. is coming out on the 10th of September this year! That’s soon.

Halo Infinite here we go – looks visually stunning but of course, there is no game play … But, we do know that this will be a launch title for the upcoming new Xbox console project Scarlet, and yes, you’ve guessed it , we didn’t see it in action.

BETHESDA

„We are all BETHESDA!“, so we are reminded of every 10. minutes with multiple unconvincing community pieces. The glitchy mutated elephant in the room of course was addressed early as Todd Howard mentioned Fallout 76. having a lot of difficulties at launch and a lot of well-deserved criticism. In fairness, they didn’t shy away and announce their intentions to stick with the game post launch with the big announcement being the wastelanders updates . This is set to include a revamped main quest , various new toys and choice and consequences – whatever that means… But the biggest features were NPCs and full dialogue trees whoo-hoo. Let’s all cheer fundamental game mechanics from 1990s elder scrolls. The trailer hit the nail on the head at one point – with some voiceover saying :“ I don’t think anyone expected for people to come back.“ At least, they’re making amends and continuingly free updates.

Bethesda also announced their bandwagon jumping battle royale mode, and as for the rest of the show most of the runtime went to existing game updates, the Elder Scrolls Blade side-project.

In the absence of major mic drop announcements , Doom Eternal impressed with a lengthy showcase and maybe even a coherent story. Of the few new IPs on offer most exciting was a Death Loop from the Arkane studios showing a time bending cycle of two rivals incessantly shooting at each other.

A trailer for another new title – Ghost Line Tokyo though intriguing, was arguably overshadowed by its brief but delightful introduction from Akuma Nakamura, whos nervous but genuine enthusiasm instantly won over the internet.

UBISOFT

Not the strangest conference we’ve seen seeing as plenty of the show was fifty shades of Tom Clancy, but scattered in amongst the generic shooters worthy typical sprinkles of Ubisoft’s insanity – this included the annual JUST DANCE circus act. It began with the unveiling of brand new game Assassin’s Creed symphony… A soundtrack we weren’t expecting was the intro to it’s „Always sunny in Philadephia“ followed by show co-creator Rob McElhenney.
We did see a few games from ubisoft though, and even a gameplay amazingly. Watch Dogs Legion was a strong first reveal despite several leaked details beforehand. Location for the game was confirmed to be a London in a post brexit view of Britain. Aaaand – you can play as anyone – this means you can be even a Granny Assassin.

Ubisoft had a particularly leaky build-up to E3 with the roller derby, darby game revealed to be roller champions basically. And the breath of the wild clone that was teased, was shown off as Gods and Monsters – and it looked like a welcome change from the hundreds of monotone, military shooters. Ubisoft even annouced the Elite Squad featuring all your favourite generic shooter stereotypes.

Square Enix

Instead of showing us new games for the biggest industry event of the year, Square Enix decided on a bold tactic of showing us games that already existed. But jokes aside, one game in particular caught our eyes, an actual remake that stole the conference from the start as soon as we saw a familiar looking menu screen – the Final Fantasy 7. was shown off after a very long wait and we kind of understand what look so long in a way because it looks absolutely stunning after some recognisable moments seen in super high-definition future vision. We were also treated to an in-depth combat showcase with a mix of real-time and slightly turn-based – well it’s not really turn-based… it is just „slowed“ down.  The new remake is still episodic with the first episode being released on the 3rd of March 2020. with an estimated two blu-ray discs worth of content. Other confirmed releases include Final Fantasy 8., Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and The Last Remnant. Amongst other games worth mentioning there is new Marvel’s Avengers, but not as you’ve seen them before. All trailers, no gameplay, so we’ll have to wait for it till 15th of May 2020.

NINTENDO

Considering Nintendo blurted out one of their biggest reveals a week before E3, during their Pokemon direct showcase – everyone else was wondering what they had left in their pipeline. We got a very brief confirmation that they’re working on a Zelda sequel to breath of the wild which is good to know. It was certainly one of the strongest showings this year, but like the other conferences Nintendo show lacked real industry shaking bombshell announcements. But at least, it was well directed, with few Bowser jokes which gave audience an opportunity to chear about. Biggest title they’ve announced must be Animal Crossing, which set to be released on 20th of March 2020. Luigi is torturing himself again, in yet another release of Luigi’s Mansion 3. And we so a remake of Link’s Awakening complete with a Zelda dungeon maker section and overwhelmingly cute art style . Elsewhere we had a numerous JRPG trailers, too many to announce them all, a comeback of retro classic Contra and we all marveled at the deceptive power of the Nintendo switch with ports like The Witcher 3, Alien Isolation and Doom Eternal.
