Elden Ring Torrent skins are one of the most charming additions in the Tarnished Edition, and they are easy to miss if you gallop straight past them. The update hides three Spectral Steed Regalia sets across the Lands Between, each one giving your spectral steed a completely new look. If you have spent hundreds of hours with the same ghostly horse, this is the low-stakes side quest worth doing. Here is where to find all three and how to equip them.

None of these require boss fights or hidden questlines — just a bit of exploration in areas you have almost certainly already visited.

Tree Sentinel Regalia — Stormveil Castle

The first skin is tucked inside Stormveil Castle in Limgrave, so most players can grab it early. Push through to Godrick’s boss arena, then look to the right of the throne room, where a chest holds the Spectral Steed Regalia: Tree Sentinel. It reskins Torrent to match the gilded, heavily armored mounts that guard the approaches to the Lands Between — easily the most regal of the three.

Carian Silver Regalia — Ranni’s Rise, Liurnia

Next, head to Liurnia of the Lakes and make your way to Ranni’s Rise in the northern part of the region. In the first room downstairs — right next to the site of grace — you will find a chest containing the Spectral Steed Regalia: Carian Silver. If you have followed Ranni’s questline before, you already know the spot; this time there is a cosmetic waiting instead of a plot beat.

Funereal Night Regalia — Altus Plateau (No Chest)

The last one is the trickiest, because there is no chest to spot. Travel to the Altus Plateau and find the Sword Monument a little southeast of the Outer Wall Battleground site of grace. The Spectral Steed Regalia: Funereal Night is marked by a small sword sticking out of the ground rather than a container. If you keep circling the monument hunting for a chest, you will never find it. Instead, dismount and sweep the ground around the birch trees near the monument until the pickup prompt appears.

How to Equip Your Torrent Skins

Once you have at least one Spectral Steed Regalia, swapping looks is simple. Rest at any site of grace, select the option to change your spectral steed appearance, and pick the regalia you want. You can switch between them freely, so there is no penalty for experimenting until you settle on a favorite. It is a small feature, but a fresh look for Torrent is a nice reward for players still combing the map long after the credits — much like chasing down the most overpowered builds in Elden Ring or squeezing more out of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Ride in Style Across the Lands Between

Collecting all three Torrent skins in the Tarnished Edition takes maybe an hour if you fast-travel efficiently, and it is a relaxing break from the game’s usual brutality. Grab the Tree Sentinel set in Stormveil, the Carian Silver at Ranni’s Rise, and the Funereal Night near that Altus sword monument — then pick your look and enjoy a horse that finally matches your fashion. The Lands Between keeps finding new ways to reward the curious, and FromSoftware is clearly not done adding to it, as recent datamined DLC discoveries suggest.

The genre that FromSoftware more or less invented almost looked completely different. A newly surfaced prototype presentation — reportedly assembled by Japan Studio in 2007 for an industry event called Gameshare IV — has given fans the earliest known footage of Demon’s Souls, and it is a startling window into a version of the game that never shipped. The headline detail: an optional first-person camera that would have planted your face directly beneath a boss’s scaly belly.

Preservation researcher Lance McDonald dug up the roughly two-minute clip, and one commenter’s reaction — “like watching the Mona Lisa being painted” — captures why it matters. This is the seed of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and an entire industry sub-genre, caught mid-sketch.

A First-Person Souls Game Almost Existed

The most jarring difference is the camera. Alongside the familiar third-person view, the prototype offers a first-person mode clearly descended from FromSoftware’s older King’s Field dungeon crawlers. It reframes everything we assume about the series’ identity — the deliberate, readable spacing of a Souls duel depends on seeing your own character. Swap to first person and combat becomes a claustrophobic staring contest with whatever is trying to kill you.

It is easy to see why the idea was dropped. The third-person camera became one of the pillars the whole formula rests on. But for two minutes, you get to imagine the parallel universe where the studio chased immersion over precision — and the very different lineage that would have followed.

A Rougher, Stranger Bodesetsu World

The footage takes place in an early build of the game’s tutorial area, and the environmental changes are just as telling. The Dragon God — the hulking set-piece boss of the final release — is fought here in an open-air volcanic crater rather than the enclosed magma cavern players eventually got. The mood is more exposed, less oppressive, and it hints at how much the team’s sense of atmosphere sharpened during development.

There are creatures that never made the cut, too. The clip shows bipedal snake-men that look like clear ancestors of the man-serpents who would later slither through Dark Souls. Ideas rarely die at FromSoftware; they get shelved and reborn a game or two later, which is part of why the studio’s worlds feel so densely interconnected.

Why This Old Demo Still Matters in 2026

Beyond the nostalgia, the presentation is a document of intent. One segment explains the game’s then-radical asymmetric multiplayer — messages, bloodstains, and invasions — as a deliberate midpoint between MMOs and pure single-player, even joking that it would ruin your life less than an MMO would. That design philosophy became the connective tissue of every Souls game since, and seeing it articulated in 2007 shows how early the vision crystallised.

For anyone who cares about game preservation, it is also a reminder of how much history hides on old presentation discs and conference reels. Without hobbyist researchers, footage like this simply vanishes. That the earliest look at one of gaming’s most influential titles surfaced almost two decades later is equal parts thrilling and a little alarming.

The Bottom Line

This 2007 Demon’s Souls prototype is more than a curiosity — it is the origin story of a genre, showing a first-person camera, an open Dragon God arena, and cut enemies that quietly resurfaced years later. It proves how close one of gaming’s defining series came to being something else entirely, and it makes the strongest case yet for taking game preservation seriously before the next Mona Lisa sketch is lost for good.

Former Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida calls the missing Bloodborne PC release a complete mystery, even though he remains a huge fan of the FromSoftware classic.

Shuhei Yoshida spent years as one of the most powerful people at Sony, greenlighting the studio deals that turned PlayStation into a first-party powerhouse. So when he stands on stage and says he has no idea why one of his own company’s most acclaimed games has never come to PC, that is not a fan complaint. That is an insider admission that something is broken.

During a keynote at Japan’s CEDEC industry event, the former Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios president called out Bloodborne directly. The 2015 FromSoftware game, he said, still has no PS5 version and no PC release, even as Sony’s first-party teams keep churning out remasters of other titles. Yoshida called it a complete mystery, adding that he gets asked about it constantly and simply does not have an answer. He also made a point of saying he is a huge fan of the game himself, which makes the shrug even more notable.

A Gothic Horror Classic Stuck Behind a Locked Door

Bloodborne is not a niche cult title propped up by nostalgia. It is widely considered one of the best games FromSoftware has ever made, a gothic horror answer to the Souls formula that traded shields and patience for aggression and speed. Players who love it tend to love it obsessively, and that fandom has spent close to a decade lobbying for a PS5 patch, a 60fps mode, or any acknowledgment that the game still exists.

What makes the silence sting is the timing. FromSoftware’s other work has never been more visible. Elden Ring became a genuine cultural phenomenon, and its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, sold enormously well on every platform it touched, PC included. Sekiro, which you can revisit in our Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice review, has been available on PC since launch. Bloodborne, arguably the most atmospheric and distinctive entry in the whole FromSoftware catalog, is the one left behind.

Why Sony Has Ported Nearly Everything Else But This

Here is the part that should bother any business owner paying attention to platform strategy: Sony has already proven it knows how to do this. God of War, the Horizon series, Spider-Man, Returnal, and a long list of other former PlayStation exclusives have all shipped on PC, usually a year or two after their console release, and usually to strong sales. Sony built an entire revenue stream around delayed PC ports. Bloodborne sitting this out for more than ten years is not a policy, it is an outlier, and outliers usually have a reason behind them even when nobody explains it publicly.

The likely culprits are not exciting: a messy rights and licensing arrangement between Sony and FromSoftware, source code or engine issues from a decade-old codebase, or simply a lack of internal priority when there are newer franchises to promote. None of those explanations are satisfying to fans, and Yoshida’s comments suggest they are not fully satisfying to former Sony leadership either.

What the Silence Signals About Game Preservation and Sony’s Roadmap

There is a bigger issue here beyond one missing port. Bloodborne represents a growing category of beloved games trapped by corporate inertia rather than any real business logic. When a title this influential cannot get a remaster, a frame rate patch, or a PC release, it raises real preservation concerns. Hardware ages, PS4 units eventually fail, and a game with no path forward risks becoming harder to access for the next generation of players who want to see where the modern Souls genre actually started.

For Sony, the absence also undercuts the narrative that its PC strategy is mature and predictable. Investors and fans alike have gotten used to a steady drumbeat of PlayStation exclusives eventually landing on Steam. Bloodborne is the glaring exception that makes the whole strategy look inconsistent, and having a former executive publicly call it a mystery does nothing to reassure anyone that a fix is coming soon.

Until Sony says otherwise, Bloodborne remains locked to PS4 and PS5, one of the last major holdouts in an otherwise open playbook. Yoshida’s comments do not change that, but they confirm what fans already suspected: even the people who used to run PlayStation cannot explain why.

Elden Ring is an epic action role-playing game set in a vast and mysterious world with rich lore and history. Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is renowned for its intricate storytelling and captivating world-building. One of the most notable aspects of Elden Ring’s lore is the involvement of George R. R. Martin, the renowned author of “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, upon which the popular TV show “Game of Thrones” is based. Martin collaborated closely with FromSoftware to create the deep and immersive lore that underpins the game’s universe. His masterful touch is evident in the complex web of kingdoms, characters, and conflicts that players encounter as they journey through the land.

This particular DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is thought to bring a lot of changes to the overall lore and shine a light on a lot of mysteries of the world.

Shadow of the Erdtree announcement

On the 23rd of February, the Elden Ring team announced the upcoming expansions on their Twitter account. Since then, there has really been little information from the developing team. However, that did not stop fans from speculating about the content of the expansion.

Who is the person riding Torrent in the picture?

At first glance, a lot of fans would say that the person in the picture is Queen Marika. The similarities are definitely there: golden braided hair and similarly placed armbands. However, another, but less popular, theory is that it is actually one of Markia’s children a demigod by the name of Miquella.

The hairstyle depicted in the announcement post is identical to Miquella’s and all the known statues show them to have exact same garments as well. What’s also interesting is that Marika is always shown as an adult, whilst this person looks childlike. An Elden Ring character that was cursed to an eternal childhood perhaps? Seem’s too good of a coincidence to miss out on. Another clue we have is the sentence of the post:

Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together.

Miquella is rumored to want a new world order established in the Lands Between. So, with my whole heart, I can confidently say that the person in the image is Miquella.

What does that say about our mount Torrent?

It would be foolish to consider Torrent just a simple mount that gets you from A to B when in reality he’s a full-on character. At the beginning of the game, he chooses you in the graveyard and while the whistle to call Torrent is given to you by Melina, she is simply acting on his will.

However, someone that knows more about the spectral steed is Ranni. You may remember her as the person who gives you the three lone spirit wolves also at the beginning of the game and says they’re from Torrent’s former master. There’s a relief in Farum Azula that depicts a small child-like figure surrounded by three wolves. But, we are not given any concrete evidence whether this is Torrent’s former master. Miquella was a notable craftsman that could have made the whistle ring, and also he is quite famous for their ability to install loyalty in others. This is just speculation, but it is highly possible that Torrent’s former master is indeed him.

What’s Shadow of the Erdtree?

The thing in the image that we can be the least sure of is the dark erdtree in the distance. It still acts as a light source like other erdtrees in the game but it is a lot weaker. It seems as if there are two erdtrees in the image. The straight one is weeping gold like other retirees and a darker one that’s smothering the other.

My favorite theory is that this occurrence is actually happening in some kind of spirit realm. There are no known plants that could have done something like this to an Erdtree and also the timeline with Miquella’s storyline wouldn’t exactly fit. The spirit graves surrounding Torrent and the landscape that is unlike anything in Lands Between support the fact that this might actually be a spirit realm. We must not forget about Miquella’s alternative existence in the spirit realm as St. Trina. But, what does this mean for the lore? Sadly, there’s little information about the spirit realms and we would have to wait for the DLC to drop.

Final thoughts and release date

We aren’t expecting the DLC anytime soon, not even this year considering the trailer hasn’t been yet announced. Needless to say, everyone in the gaming community is very excited and were quite disappointed when nothing was published earlier in June. Brace yourselves Tarnished because we got a long wait ahead of us.

Elden ring is an action-roleplaying game released in February 2022 and developed by none other than Fromsoftware. They are a Japan-based company that is known for their Armored core and Souls series. Some other popular titles of theirs include Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, King’s field, etc. Elden ring, like some of the other games from this studio, follows the Souls formula. Another interesting fact, the writer of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin worked with Fromsoftware in collaboration, providing material for the setting of this videogame.

The main premise of the game is to return the possessed shards of the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord. It is set in The Lands Between, sometimes after the destruction of the ring. As a player, you can roam around the vast world, fight, loot different items, interact with NPC’s, level up your character, etc.

What is the Souls formula?

Games that follow the Souls formula are known for their difficulty and environmental storytelling. As we previously stated, Fromsoftware and its Souls series are the origins of this subgenre. It all started with the game Demon’s Souls but gained popularity with the release of Dark Souls. These games are usually set in a dark fantasy world that lacks the traditional sense of storytelling, but makes it up with unmatchable world-building. Even though the term ‘’soulslike’’ is often thrown around to describe games with only a few vague similarities, Elden Ring truly falls into this subgenre. So, what makes the game stand out?

First, we have to take into consideration the sheer size of the game, it’s almost three times bigger than Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. As an experienced studio, regarding this subgenre of games, Fromsoftware definitely used all the knowledge they have gained during all those years of developing. Magic, which didn’t have the spotlight in previous games, now took the throne and we can see various spell alterations such as summoning spirits, AoE, pyromancy, etc.

World of Elden Ring

Whenever you play a videogame with an open-world element, new locations on the map always seem disorienting at first. However, after a little, you should be able to easily get around. That is because games like Witcher 3, Assasins Creed Vallhalla, and others have a world that internalizes certain rules to the player. For example, where the different treasure is typically hidden. With Elden Ring, that is not the case. The Lands Between are specifically designed to never let you get close to understanding the scheme of the world.

Combat in Elden Ring

At the start of the game, you will have to make your own character. We have to say that there are many options to choose from which is rare for these types of games. There are 10 starting classes to choose from: Wretch, Confessor, Prisoner, Samurai, Prophet, Astrologer, Bandit, Hero, Warrior, and Vagabond. Each of them carries its own set of perks and cons. For players that are playing a Fromsoftware title for the first time, we suggest Vagabond.

Magic, like we previously stated, plays a big part in the game. Chances are, whatever build you pick, you will encounter spells in your abilities. A lot of different bosses in dungeons and in the open world will grant you spells as a reward. Also, NPC’s and items hidden all over the map are a good source of spells. The game is fairly new, so we cannot know yet what builds will be the best. One thing is for sure though, summon spells will find their way into every player’s arsenal. Certain AI companions can withstand even the toughest bosses on their own.

Conclusion

Remarkable world-building truly makes Elden Ring stand out from others. This game will make every fan of this subgenre happy, but it also brought a change regarding not-so-hardcore gamers. With help of summoning spells and magic in general, even those who aren’t that experienced with these kinds of games will certainly enjoy the experience as well.
