Hello Kitty Island Adventure quietly became one of the best cozy games in recent memory, and its latest expansion, City Town, arrives to prove that the team behind it hasn’t lost a step. If anything, City Town is the point where the game stops playing it safe and starts showing off.

What City Town Actually Delivers

City Town expands Hello Kitty Island Adventure into an entirely new urban environment — a significant tonal shift from the tropical island aesthetic that defined the base game and its earlier Wheatflour Wonderland DLC. The city setting opens up a wide range of new activities, social interactions, and environmental storytelling that the island format couldn’t accommodate. New characters populate the town with distinct routines and personalities, while fresh crafting recipes, collectibles, and mini-games give players dozens of hours of new content to work through. The quality of life improvements introduced alongside the DLC — including better inventory management and expanded customization options — feel like listening to actual player feedback, which is rarer in live-service games than it should be.

Why This DLC Sets a New Bar for the Genre

The cozy game genre has expanded rapidly over the past three years, and with that growth has come an avalanche of mediocre expansions that pad runtime without adding substance. City Town is a direct counter-argument to that trend. Rather than layering more of the same content onto an existing map, the team built a genuinely distinct space with its own identity, rhythm, and charm. The Wheatflour Wonderland expansion, which was warmly received at launch, now looks more like a test run in comparison — a proof of concept that City Town has fully realized. For players who enjoyed the base experience but felt the island was getting a little crowded, the city is a breath of fresh air that resets the pacing entirely.

Cozy Games as a Business Model — And Why It Works

Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s commercial trajectory is worth noting for anyone watching the indie and mid-tier game space. Originally released on Apple Arcade before expanding to PC, the title has cultivated a loyal audience that actively invests in its ongoing content calendar. City Town is the clearest sign yet that the studio understands its audience’s appetite for meaningful expansion — not filler. In an era where live-service fatigue is real and players are increasingly skeptical of paid DLC, releasing something genuinely excellent is both a creative win and a smart business move. Positive word of mouth from content like City Town is what sustains a game’s life cycle long after the initial launch buzz fades.

The Verdict

Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s City Town DLC is a confident, generous expansion that delivers on the promise of the base game and then some. It’s the rare piece of post-launch content that makes you excited about where the series goes next, rather than simply grateful it exists. If you’ve been sleeping on this franchise, City Town is the right moment to take another look.

Released by Sakaguchi’s video game studio, Mistwalker, via Apple Arcade for iOS devices, Fantasian was designed with an old-style feel, from gameplay to environment. The studio even roped in some high-profile names to help design the game’s world.

The turn-based Role Playing Game (RPG) Fantasian’s plot is fairly simple. The protagonist of the story, Leo, wakes up from an explosion with his memories gone. He subsequently gets sucked into a fate-defying quest, of gargantuan proportion, while trying to piece together the details of his own identity.

The tale seems as though it may span a number of games, with two parts in the Fantasian story already having been released. The first part, in April of this year. The second part following, on the 13th of August.

The title was developed, exclusively, for Apple Arcade by Mistwalker. This happened after Hironobu met with Apple staff members, who were fans of the creator’s Final Fantasy series. The team built the game with the spirit of Hironbu’s roots. The painstaking development affected both gameplay, and the environment. Not to mention the game’s look-and-feel.

Inspiration for Fantasian

Having done a number of titles: from Blade Guardian to Party Wave, to Final story, and finally breaking into mobile with Terra Wars, Mistwalker started working on Fantasian after Hironbu was inspired to do something that we close in spirit to old Japanese role-playing games after playing Final Fantasy VI in 2018. The studio took the concept a step further by building the title’s set completely, with hand-crafted dioramas.

Roping in Japan’s Tokusatsu greats, the video game house developed over 150 dioramas that are used in Fantasia’s in-game world. Akira Toriyama (creator of the Dragon Ball series), as well as some of the folks who were involved in the Attack On Titan series all chipped in, developing the in-game world.

Digitizing the game

Using a total of over 150 hand-crafted dioramas of buildings and their interiors, the studio took to the task of digitizing the entire world including the machine realm. This is harder than 3D computer-generated design, as changes to the world are harder to make.

Gameplay Overview of Fantasian

The lead character, Leo, explores an incredibly designed, and expansive world, looking for clues of his identity while battling enemies in turn-based combat. In combat mode, gameplay automatically switches to a turn-based style, where opponents take turns delivering strategic attacks on one another.

Such battles eventually lead to the Machine Realm, an alternate reality that the protagonist, along with the squad, is transported to. Fantasian carries all the hallmarks of a turn-based RPG title, but what makes it unique is the Dimengeon mode.

When Dimengeon is activated, up to 30 enemies encountered can be locked in the Dimengeon realm, allowing players to waylay battles, in favor of exploration. One caveat though, once the Dimengeon is full, all enemies are released at once, forcing players into fighting multiple enemies.

Closing thoughts

Fantasian offers one of the best Japanese turn-based RPG experiences that we, or perhaps anyone, have had in a while. The blend of new, and old gaming influences, in a classically styled turn-based RPG should delight fans who are both new or familiar with the genre.

When browsing through Apple’s subscription service, Apple Arcade, Sneaky Sasquatch might be one of the very last options – out of a fairly decent selection of games on offer – that you would take an interest in. However, in this review, we are going to discuss why going that route might not be as entertaining as giving the daily adventures of a Sasquatch a chance.

The game revolves around a sasquatch who is on a mission to save his park from being sold. In order to do so, the sasquatch has to follow leads that will ultimately get him to a hidden treasure that will help him save the park.

However, the journey to finding the stashed riches is not as straightforward as it sounds. It is a delightful adventure, with loads of side missions where our protagonist yeti has to stealthy manoeuvre his way around the park completing tasks for the forest critters, in return for gold.

The well thought out layers to this game don’t end there. The sasquatch also has to consider his own stomach and the need to sleep, and this only makes the game more entertaining. Besides watching out for park rangers, the sasquatch has to ninja his way in and out of human campsites, and scour through their rummage to find food.

This is where all the gold you earn from the side missions comes into play. You can purchase clothes to use as a disguise (it won’t work against the park rangers). There are many other things you do with the gold lile, buying a set of golf clubs and playing in tournaments, or buying a sports car and taking part in races. As the game advances, the adventures get wackier (in a fun way), it is all a part of how the story is told.

As Sneaky Sasquatch’s gameplay environment has day and night cycles, one has to complete missions and acquire food during the day cycle before heading home to call it a night. You have the option to travel manually – If you prefer the scenic route, or via a “fast-travel” item to get you there quicker.

Playing Sneaky Sasquatch is about slowly working your way to the final objective by exploring the land, earning new items, and discovering new paths and side missions – it’s a quirky mixture of Grand Theft Auto and adventure type Role Playing Game (RPG).

So What Are The Controls Like?

The game offers the option of using basic touch control, but it is also compatible with a connectible controller. Both have their upsides. For example, some may find that a controller works better for basic movements, while the touch controls might work better for a task like driving.

To ensure that you are always at your utmost sneakiest, the developers added a circular meter around other in-game characters to let you know how close you are to being detected by them. Finding yourself in the “ranger-danger” zone will be you getting chased around, GTA style, till you evade or get caught and booted off the park.

In a nutshell, Sneaky Sasquatch has some moments of tension, but the game leans more towards family friendly fun. The fact that you can save multiple player profiles adds to that.
