The game was first released for the Nintendo DSi portable gaming platform in October 2010, with a follow-up release the following year. The 2011 release of the game also featured a new Magic Mode, which sees our main protagonist, Shantae wielding extra attack power, at the expense of defensive ability though. I’m 2014, the studio released Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut. So titled because, at the time, the gaming firm had intended to release new iterations of the title as episodes of a greater narrative. 

That plan went the way of the dinosaurs, however, and instead, saw Risky’s Revenge releasing on multiple platforms in the years leading up to the Stadia release. Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut saw an iOS release that very year, with a PlayStation for port happening in  2015. Nintendo Wii U players got to enjoy the game in 2016, and Xbox enthusiasts saw a port to their platform of choice last year. 

The veteran Shantae title released alongside stablemate, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition on Google Stadia’s game streaming platform on the 23rd of February, this year. Meaning an new generation of gamers can spend hours trying to help Shantae save the day. 

The title’s narrative revolves around a Half-Genie heroine named Shantae. She is the appointed guardian of a territory called scuttle city. She loses her prestigious title after failing to thwart dastardly buccaneering ne’erdowell, Risky Boots, crashes a relic convention and pilfers a curious lamp. She sets out to restore her honor – Like Zuko in Avatar: Legend of The Last AirBender – by going after Risky.

Her uncle, Mimic, let’s her in on the fact that magic seals – three of ten, because its never easy – will be necessary to release the lamp’s powers. Probably figuring that she should head Risky off, Shantae set off to deal with the Barons of the Sequin Land, three treasure hunters who are currently in possession of the seals in question..

Risky dupes the Half-Genie’s allies into betraying her by handing her uncle over to her – trust greed. Upon Shantae’s return, Risky launches her trap and forces her to hand the seals over, in exchange for her uncle’s life. The title delivers hours of engaging gameplay with Shantae’s mix of abilities. 

Her main weapon is her hair, which she uses to whip enemies to oblivion. She also gains spells throughout the game, which offer the advantage of range attacks. The half genie also has the ability to morph into various animals, which allow for extra abilities. She can transform into a mermaid to swim underwater, an elephant to smash heavy objects, or clear away obstacles to new map areas. Shantae can also become a monkey to climb or scurry between walls.

The game’s 2D platform format is probably why it scored so highlg with critics. The Shantae titles  remind one of classic platform games like Castlevania, but has a lot of modern twists which make it an incredibly enjoyable title.

Codemasters, being the award winning publisher of such iconic high-quality racing titles as DIRT, GRID, and the official F1 racing simulation game, may be getting ready to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet with this one. The visuals of the official trailer are absolutely stunning! Mobile racing clasàsics like Asphalt may soon be on nobody’s lips.

Announced on the 12th of March, Racing Master is an upcoming real-time racing simulator. The title will be available on mobile. Though no official date-of-publication was announced, the game’s beta version was made available on mobile platforms, Android, & iOS. 

The mobile racing simulator was developed using Unreal Engine 4, so expect PC quality, detailed, graphics. Codemaster’s own EGO technology was also put to use in the development of the game. What resulted looks to be a crisp piece of work that really honors the automotive spirit.

The premise of the game being mastery through competition, players are given access to the best vehicles that the automotive industry has on offer. All fully customizable, with actual brand parts. These guys really did their licensing homework. 

The hyper-realistic high-end vehicle makes on offer feature iconic brands like, Ferrari, Porsche (not RUF, but Stuttgart, Porsche,) Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and many others. One can build their dream car collection, customized specifically to their tastes.

They can then test their automotive masterpieces against those of a globally dispersed set of competitors, in online races. Players will find themselves whizzing through the streets of the world’s most famous cities, competing for the title of Racing Master, or to land their names on the leaderboards at the very least.

This game was designed with petrol heads in mind, and features everything a racing enthusiast would ask of a simulator. Racing Master really offers a challenge that should keep it from growing tedious too soon, real-time racing against real competitors, from across the globe. 

The Asian videogame house, responsible for a number of iconic PC, & Mobile gaming titles, invites players to visit and sign-up for the Beta testing program. The company seems intent on bringing out the best game possible, and would like people to help with development by getting in on the action, pre-release.

At the beginning of April, the much anticipated, AAA rated, title from Polish games developer, People Can Fly, Outriders, was made available on multiple platforms. Users of PC, Xbox, PlayStation, the Epic Games store, and streaming platforms, Steam, as well as mobile streaming platform, Google Stadia.

“We’re excited to team with Google to bring Outriders to Stadia with Stadia exclusive features and the highest levels of performance, allowing players to get the best experience on all supported devices” said Jon Brooke, of Square Enix.

The game is set in a fictitious future, where the planet Earth has been rendered unlivable by an ecological cataclysm (sound familiar?) Anyway, humanity sets out to colonize planet Enoch. Quite a hostile environment , man comes to find.

Players employ a arsenal mix of magic, and futuristic weapons to subdue the hostile planet and its inhabitants. To fulfill one’s quest, one must complete missions while blasting through enemies in solo mode, or in co-op mode, with up to three players.

The game’s Stadia release was the first to coincide with releases on other platforms. Titles have previously been released on Stadia a lot later than they had on other titles.  Madden NFL 21, Jedi Wars: Fallen Order, as well as Fifa 21 are some high profile titles that came to Stadia a lot later than their original release dates. This affords Stadia, parity with other platforms, which positions it as a legitimate game streaming platform.

Outriders was published on Google Stadia, alongside titles like Resident Evil 7 Biohazard: Gold Edition, Kemono Heroes, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, among others, and lead the pack of games to be released that week. 

The game also launched – perhaps another record breaker – alongside a game patch for the Outriders title, which is called the Outriders Day One update. The update smoothed out some issues that were noted by players who got hold of the demo version, prior to official release. 

Jittery visuals were the main focus of the update. Aside from improving player experience in the latter part of the game, cutscenes & dialogues are supposed to play out a lot smoother after the update is installed.

Improvements to co-op functionality, decreased loading time for Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of the game were also noted. People Can Fly also worked on the game’s cover system, balance functionality, while making cross-play a default function, between the demo and release versions of the title.

Outriders’ gameplay is much like a cross between Gears of War, Anthem, and Destiny, so it won’t be completely unfamiliar with folks who have dabbled with any of those titles. Aside from that, it’s a brilliantly crafted game. The whole ‘dying earth’ narrative is getting rather clichéd though.
