The browser has the same features as Chrome and some additional ones like ads and website trackers blocker.
What I like the most is that I can earn Basic Attention Token (BAT) while using Brave.
What is Basic Attention Token (BAT)
Basic Attention Token (BAT) seeks to improve the efficiency of digital advertising with a token that can be exchanged between publishers, advertisers, and users on the Ethereum blockchain.
The token can be used to obtain a variety of advertising and attention-based services on the BAT platform and the Brave browser.
For users, it’s important to note, the Brave Rewards product is opt-in.
Once you install Brave browser, a Brave Rewards with Basic Attention Token (BAT) Wallet is automatically created for you. You get paid for viewing online ads. Just remember this option needs to be turned on under Brave Rewards settings.
Users can still keep using Brave without any kind of ad intervention, but they do have an incentive to join. Brave promises that 70 percent of the money companies spend on these ads will be paid out to users’ wallets via Brave’s Basic Attention Token (BAT).
Traditional online advertising works by monitoring web users’ behaviour, reporting that to the cloud and picking ads to serve them based on that data.
A catalogue of potential ads is served to the browser as a very light file and the browser, locally, follows user behaviour and picks ads to show based on that. Crucially, the Brave browser never reports out data on user behaviour.
So, advertisers will still get the targeting they want, but they will have to rely on machine learning built into the Brave browser itself, rather than user activity stored in the cloud and compiled over time.
Getting Paid
To start earning BAT for letting these notifications pop up, users need to make sure they are using the latest version of Brave.
Currently, Brave Rewards users either add funds themselves or accept grants from Brave, and the BAT in their wallet is redistributed to the websites they visit. When Brave Ads kicks in, it will default to accumulating BAT for redistribution to publishers in the same fashion, unless the user changes the defaults.
Bottom Line
Brave is a very secure, fast, and stable browser that blocks ads and trackers and effectively helps make its users more anonymous online. In nutshell, it is almost the same as Chrome, but its approach to ad-blocking and the opt-in for the Brave Rewards system is opening eyes in the world of online browsing.
In the next article, we will write about a Brave publisher program – so stay tuned. BizzNerd is already verified Brave publisher, so if you want us to send a tip – just press “Brave Rewards” icon and donate.
