Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21

Unsurprisingly, 1.21 revolves around the new Trial Chambers structure, which can be located underground in any stone layer (more commonly in the Deepslate layers). The Trial Chambers utilises the latest copper and tuff blocks, such as the chiselled and brick tuff blocks. Scattered throughout, you will also find many trail spawners which spawn waves of hostile mobs you must defeat to get the rewards within the spawners. After completion, there is a chance that the spawner may drop the Trial Key, which is used to open the vaults for loot.

If the player enters the Trial Chambers with the Bad Omen effect (which can only be obtained by drinking the ominous potion dropped by raid captains), all the Trial Spawners near the player turn into the Ominous Trial Spawners which are more challenging but give better rewards. There is a chance of Ominous Spawners dropping Ominous Vault Keys that are used to open Ominous Vaults which contain much better loot than normal Vaults.

The Breeze

The Breeze is a new mob which only spawns in the Trial Chambers. They are similar to the Blaze, except instead of being made of fire and shooting Fire Charges, it is made of wind and shoot Wind Charges. Although these wind charges are not highly damaging, they blast you high into the air, causing fall damage. Having Feather Falling IV on your boots will greatly help battle them. Killing a Breeze will drop Breeze Rods, which yield 4 Wind Charges each that you can use to leap into the air by shooting them at your feet. Wind Charges can also be used to break all fall damage if you use it right before hitting the ground.

Breeze Rods are also used in the recipe for the new Mace weapon. To craft a Mace you place a Heavy Core above a Breeze Rod in a crafting grid. The only way to obtain the Heavy Core is by completing an Ominous Trial and opening an Ominous Vault, which has a 7.5% chance of dropping the Heavy Core. The Mace is the most unique weapon in the game as the damage is not capped at a certain level. The higher you fall before impact, the greater the damage the mace deals to the target. Pairing this weapon with the new Breeze Charges packs quite a big punch. With a fall height of at least 127 blocks, the Mace can even one hit kill a Warden which is the bulkiest mob in the game, boasting 500 health points.

The Bogged

The Bogged is a new Skeleton variant like the Stray that spawns in Trial Chambers or any Swamp biome. What makes them different is that they shoot arrows of poison like how the strays shoot arrows of slowness. However, it is important to note that the Bogged’s reload time is much slower than a typical Skeleton’s.

The Crafter

The Crafter block is an upgraded redstone crafting table. This new Redstone component can be used to automate crafting. This is done by pumping the required recipe items into the Crafter via hoppers in the correct order (from top left to bottom right) and giving it a redstone signal to shoot the item out of the front. It is easy to set up for recipes that only use one block, such as chests, bamboo blocks, iron blocks, gold ingots, etc… However, for recipes that take more than one item, you will need well-timed item streams using hoppers and redstone clocks. The possibilities the Crafter introduces for Redstone enthusiasts are really endless.

New Potions in Minecraft 1.21

Minecraft 1.21 adds 4 new brewable potion items into the game. The Potion of Infestation is brewed by adding a stone block to Awkward Potions. This potion inflicts the Infested status effect which has a 10% chance of spawning 1 to 3 silverfish upon damage.

The Potion of Oozing is brewed by adding a slime block to Awkward Potions. This Potion inflicts the Oozing effect which spawns 2 Slime mobs upon death.

The Potion of Weaving is similar to the Oozing potion, as it causes a Cobweb square to spawn around the mob/player upon death. To brew this, you add a Cobweb to Awkward Potions. Additionally, the Weaving effect grants the mob/player faster movement through Cobwebs.

Lastly, the Potion of Wind Charging is made by adding a Breeze Rod to Awkward potions and causes the inflicted user to emit a burst of air similar to the Wind Charge upon death.

Other Features

Minecraft 1.21 also introduces two new armor trims found in the Trial Chambers called Flow and Bolt armor trims. Flow can only be dropped by the Ominous Vault while Bolt can only be dropped by the normal Vault. In the image above, the Flow trim is on the left, and Bolt is on the right.

1.21 also adds three new pottery sherds: Flow, Guster, and Scrape sherds. They can be found in the Trail Chamber structures already in the form of decorated pots. Abilities

His signature ability is called Dizzy. When you use FIRE, it sends it floating in the air and shoots blinding plasma blasts at enemies. Multiple enemies can be simultaneously hit by this ability but will turn into a globule upon expiring. Enemies can force Dizzy into a globule by shooting it down. It will stay in globule form for 20 seconds before disappearing. During these 20 seconds, Gekko can retrieve the ability for reuse after a cool down of 10 seconds.

One of his normal abilities is Moshpit. Moshpit is a molly ability. He throws Moshpit using the same mechanics Kay/o uses to throw his molly. Gekko’s molly detonates after hitting the floor, dealing quick ticks of damage over a short time. The detonation consists of the inner radius, dealing maximum damage, and the outer radius, dealing less damage. The windup time before detonating lasts three seconds to let enemies escape before taking damage. The inner radius does 150 damage, and the outer does 75 damage. This molly also inflicts reduced damage to allies.

His final ability is Wingman, arguably the most special ability in Valorant. When you FIRE using Wingman, he will run forward, searching for enemies. If the Wingman hits a wall, he will bounce off and continue on another path. Once locating an enemy, it will follow them. Once close enough, it will stop and clap its hands- concussing any enemies in front.
Using ALT FIRE targeting a planted or spike will send the Wingman to defuse it. If used when possessing the spike, Wingman will go onto the site and plant for you. After defusing or planting, Wingman will expire, causing it to turn into a globule. Enemies can also shoot Wingman to prevent him from planting/defusing the spike.

Ultimate of Gekko

Finally, Gekko’s ultimate ability is Thrash. You need to obtain seven ult points to use Thrash. Once equipping the ability, using FIRE will connect Gekko will gain remote control of the ability. Thrash always moves forward- you can only steer and jump while controlling it. Upon activation, Thrash will launch forward and explode. The explosion will detain anyone in the radius (including Gekko and any allies). Enemies can shoot and force Thrash into a globule before it activates.

The original Ghostrunner game was a massive hit with the entire gaming community, with everyone praising its fluid gameplay. Controlling all the speed and combative abilities of Ghostrunner satisfied anyone who tried it. Another possibility for Ghostrunner 2 is a multiplayer feature, whether cooperative or competitive. The smooth combat system of Ghostrunner would work very well in a competitive multiplayer setting. Plus, it would provide a fun way for players to share the experience with friends.

Brimstone

One of the five original Valorant agents, Brimstone is an American controller. A controller is generally used to set up smokes for the team and provide cover. Brimstone is a popular choice among smokers because he can use up to three smoke clouds from his ability: “Sky Smoke”. He has two additional supporting utilities: “Incendiary” (which is a Molotov) and “Stim Beacon” (which is a beacon that grants players extra speed, faster fire rate, and faster reload). His ultimate power (a power that can be used once in a while after obtaining a certain number of Ult Points through combat or picking them up) is called “Orbital Strike”. Orbital Strike is a massive laser beam that shoots down from the sky, harming everyone inside and obscuring vision.

Sova

Sova is the initiator of the original five. An initiator does what the name suggests- they initiate attacks on site and are used to locate enemies. Sova is a Russian archer with an essential ability named “Recon Bolt”. Recon Bolts send waves in all directions around themselves, marking every enemy hit by them. He also has the “Owl Drone”, a drone he can control and use to tag enemies. His other utility is a “Shock Bolt” that spawns an orb of electricity wherever it lands, dealing some damage. His Ultimate, “Hunter’s Fury”, is a massive bow that shoots a laser beam through walls that can reach far distances. He can shoot three beams with one usage. Each beam deals 80 damage, meaning two shots can kill a fully armored enemy.

Sage

Sage is the sentinel of the original five agents. A sentinel primarily focuses on holding down sites and preventing enemy flank plays. Sage’s primary ability, “Healing Orb”, is a heal that completely heals any allies back to 100 health. However, she can only heal herself by 30 health. Her other two abilities are “Barrier Orb” (A wall that has 800 health) and “Slow Orb” (An orb that spawns in ice on the floor it hits that slows down anyone on it).

Phoenix

Phoenix is British and is one of the two original duelists in Valorant. A duelist’s role is to take the front lines in fights and get the most kills. Phoenix’s primary ability is his Molotov named “Hot Hands”. He can use Hot Hands to molly enemies or to heal himself. Another ability of his is “Blaze”, a wall that blocks vision and burns anyone that touches it. He can use his wall to heal himself as well. His last utility is “Curveball”, a flash that he can throw to the left or right, blinding any players looking in its direction.

Jett

Jett is the other Duelist in the original five. She comes from South Korea, and her abilities are movement oriented. Her “Tailwind” lets her dash in whichever direction she is moving. “Updraft” is another one of her movement abilities. Updraft allows her to launch up into the sky. Her last ability is called “Cloudburst”, a ball of smoke that lasts five seconds. Jett’s Ultimate, “Blade Storm”, lets her equip five super accurate knives. If Jett kills an enemy by throwing individual knives, she recharges all five knives. Right-clicking will throw all five at once. However, a right-click kill will not recharge her ability.

Viper

Viper is an American Chemist. She plays the role of controller. Her signature ability- “Toxic Screen”, is a long wall of toxic cloud that obstructs vision and poisons enemies who touch it. The other two abilities are “Snake Bite” (a poisonous Molly that deals fast damage as well as making them vulnerable) and “Poison Cloud”, Which is a ball of toxic cloud that temporarily decreases the health of enemies inside. Her Ultimate is an enlarged version of her Poison Cloud. She releases a large poisonous cloud that can sometimes encase an entire site. Enemies’ health who are in it will lose all but one HP.

Omen

Omen is the only agent whose identity is unknown. He is a mysterious controller. His primary ability- “Dark Cover,” provides a ball of shadow to obscure vision. Omen’s “Shrouded Step” enables him to teleport anywhere in a small area around himself. His “Paranoia” is a unique blinding ability that goes through walls and inflicts near-sightedness on anyone hit. “From the Shadows” is his Ultimate ability; it lets him teleport anywhere onto the map. He can cancel the teleportation once using it. Enemies can also force Omen to cancel his Ultimate by killing his shadow before he fully teleports.

Killjoy

Killjoy, a German mechanical genius, is one of the most popular sentinels. Her abilities are all things she designed herself. “Turret” is her signature ability. It spawns a small sentry gun that automatically shoots any enemies it sees. Killjoy has a Molly ability, “Nanoswarm”, which she can throw without activating. She can remotely activate her Nanoswarm from anywhere on the map. Her last ability is “Alarm Bot”, which alerts her whenever a player steps near it. Killjoy’s Ultimate ability is what makes her so popular. “Lockdown” spawns a semi-sphere bubble that covers an entire site. After placing it down, enemies have 13 seconds to get out of the area. If they’re caught inside after windup time, they become detained.

Cypher

Cypher is a Sentinel. Hailing from Morocco, he is a very useful agent for gathering information and defense. His signature ability- “Spycam”, is a camera he places on walls that he can remotely access and use to shoot enemies with a tracking dart. Cypher’s “Tripwire” is a digital wire spanning two vertical surfaces. Cypher gets notified whenever it gets broken or whenever someone passes it. His last normal ability is “Cyber Cage”: once it’s thrown, he can activate it to provide a visual cover.

Reyna

Reyna is Duelist hailing from Mexico. Her primary abilities are “Devour” and “Dismiss”, which she can only use after killing or assisting in killing an enemy. Reyna can either heal from the kill (Devour) or turn invisible and invincible for a few seconds using the soul (Dismiss). Her other ability is “Leer”, an eye that she can place through walls. It near-sights enemies in front of it. Her Ultimate is “Empress”, which increases her fire rate and reload speed. While using her Ultimate, she automatically heals after every kill without using the ability.

Raze

Raze is a Brazilian Duelist. Her Signature Ability- “Paint Shells” Is a grenade that spews out five smaller grenades upon detonation. “Paint Shells” automatically recharges upon killing two enemies in one round. She also has a “Boom Bot”, a robot that travels on a straight path and bounces off walls. Once sighting an enemy, it will track them and explode once close enough. Raze also has two “Blast Packs”; she uses these to bounce high into the air and can stack both uses to gain extra height. Her Ultimate ability: “Showstopper” is a giant paint bazooka that kills anyone in its explosion radius.

Breach

Hailing from Sweden, Breach is a bionic initiator. His primary ability, “Fault Line”, causes a long striped quake that concusses enemies. Breach also has a flash ability called “Flashpoint”, which he can use to flash people behind objects/walls. His last ability is “After Shock”, which shoots three beams of energy through walls, each tick dealing 60 damage. His Ultimate is an enlarged version of his “Fault Line” ability. It sends a large quake that can cover an entire site. Players caught in it are knocked into the air and get concussed.

Skye

Skye is an initiator from Australia. She is most useful at gathering intel and supporting the team. Her signature ability- “Guiding Light”, is a bird that follows the player’s cursor after use. Pressing the equip button again will cause the bird to explode, blinding anyone in front of it. Her “Regrowth” ability heals teammates in a radius around her. It can heal 100 HP. Her last ability is called “Trailblazer”, a small Tasmanian tiger figure she can remotely control after use and bite enemies to concuss them and deal 30 damage. Her Ultimate: “Seekers” spawns in three floating plants that seek enemies and blind if not killed.

Yoru

Yoru is a duelist who hails from Japan. His main ability- “Gatecrash”, is a tether that he can right-click to place or left-click to send forward. Upon pressing the equip button again, he teleports to the tether instantly. His other abilities are “Fakeout” (a fake clone that blinds enemies once damaged) and “Blindside” (a flash ability that flashes everyone after bouncing on a surface once). His Ultimate ability: “Dimensional Drift”, lets him become invisible to enemies for 12 seconds. While invisible, Yoru can still use his abilities. To come out of the Ultimate early, you can press the equip button again.

Astra

Astra is a Ghanaian controller. Her signature ability is “Stars”, which must be pre-placed on the map in her Astral Form. Once placed, she can use these stars during rounds to either smoke, pull in enemies, or damage players near it. Her Ultimate ability, “Cosmic Divide”, places an infinitely high purple wall that spans the entire map. Cosmic Divide’s wall blocks bullets, but players can walk through.

Kay/o

Kay/o is a unique initiator. We do not know much about him except that he comes from a future timeline. His main ability, “Zero/point”, is a throwing knife that detects and suppresses any enemies in its radius. His “Frag/ment” is a normal Molly ability. He also has a flash ability called “Flash/drive”. His Ultimate- “NULL/cmd” sends waves of suppression from Kay/o. He also gains a battle stim effect while using his Ultimate. If he dies after activating his Ultimate ability, a teammate can revive him. Enemies can prevent this by shooting his downed body.

Chamber

Chamber is a French sentinel. His main ability is “Rendezvous”, a box he places which he can use to teleport back. The other two abilities are “Trademark” (a camera on the floor that slows down enemies which get located by it) and “Headhunter” (a Deagle-like gun he can purchase bullets for at the beginning of each round). His Ultimate: “Tour De Force” is a sniper rifle that kills players in one shot. Chamber gets five rounds of ammunition along with the sniper rifle.

Neon

Neon is a duelist hailing from the Philippines. Her main attribute is her speed which lets her run faster than all other agents. Her primary ability is “High Gear”, which she can use to speed up. However, she cannot shoot while running using “High Gear”. Her other abilities are “Fast Lane” (a pair of blue walls that block players’ vision) and “Relay Bolt” (two bolts that she shoots that concuss anyone who gets hit). Her Ultimate- “Overdrive”, lets her shoot a powerful laser beam from her finger. Neon can use her Ultimate until her “High Gear” runs out.

Fade

Fade is a Turkish initiator. She is best for gathering intel on enemies. Her signature ability is “Haunt”, an eye that locates and marks any enemies in its radius. The other two abilities are “Prowler” (a floating mouth that sights enemies that it bites) and “Seize” (a ball that places a radius of which enemies cannot leave if trapped inside. Players also get deafened when inside the “Seize” radius. Fade’s Ultimate power is “Night Fall”, a pulse of darkness that goes through walls. Any enemy caught in it will get marked as well as deafened.

Harbor

Hailing from India, Harbor is the latest controller in Valorant. All his powers are water-based. His signature ability is “High Tide”, a tall and long wall that blocks vision and slows anyone who passes through it. He also has “Cove”, a small bubble that absorbs 500 damage. His final normal ability is “Cascade”, a medium-sized water wall that pushes forward. “Cascade” can be stopped by pressing the same equip button. Harbor’s Ultimate Ability is “Reckoning”, a large circle on the floor that locates and concusses any players standing in the radius.

Lack of Fresh Content   

The lack of fresh updates bored the community. Players require consistent updates to keep entertained. Repetitive game modes and maps cause the game to be redundant. Developers should frequently release new maps, weapons, and game modes (or at least alter existing ones). Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 didn’t give enough content to keep players interested: leading to an inevitable decline in the player count.      

Warzone 2 once held an event featuring King Kong and Godzilla. The event was a massive flop and led many players to stop playing Warzone 2. We explained the event in more detail in one of our articles previously: 

Buggy Gameplay    

Another reason for the drop in players is buggy gameplay. Players rightfully expect a smooth and seamless gaming experience considering Call of Duty is one of the largest gaming franchises. However, many bugs and glitches have ridden Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. 

The developers should have addressed these problems and provided regular patch updates to improve the gameplay experience. At the least, they should provide a playable game.  

Poor Balance in Matchmaking  

In every multiplayer game, skill-level-based matchmaking is vital. Fair matchmaking ensures that players of all skill levels can enjoy the game. If the fights are unfair, it will lead to frustration and a tiring experience. Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 have constantly suffered from an imbalance in matchmaking. The matchmaking led to many low-skill-level players quitting the games altogether. Players want to feel like they have a fair and equal chance of winning- otherwise, they will lose any incentive to play again.    

Lack of Communication with Players  

The last reason is Call of Duty’s lack of communication with players. Developers need to listen to their players to understand their needs and resolve any issues that stop them from playing the game.    

Executives failing to do this led to a massive disconnect between the fans and the game. Players will eventually lose interest if developers don’t hear their voices. Furthermore, players will find other games to play where their opinions matter.   

Concluding Thoughts  

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were once atop the charts, but now they have lost a large chunk of their reputation. If the developers of any game wish to retain players, they need to manage any issues players may have and provide routine updates to enrich the gaming experience. We hope that Call of Duty developers take the lost player count as a wake-up call and finally listen to players’ and make them feel valued in the community.

Despite the delays- Cameron and his team have been working hard on the sequels. They are taking the time to perfect the technology, to build an even more immersive world for audiences to experience.

Avatar the Way of Water Plot

Avatar: The Way of Water is the second sequel and it came to cinemas in December of 2022. The plot takes place years after the events of the first film. The story still follows Jake Sully. Now he is fully integrated into the Na’vi culture and becomes a leader in their war against the human military. Along with his wife Neytiri and other Navi warriors, Jake fights the humans to protect Pandora’s oceans and the creatures that live within them. They are forced into war when humans attempt to extract a valuable mineral from the ocean floor. The film also further explores Na’vi’s spiritual connection to Pandora and the impact of humans’ actions on the environment.

Avatar 3 Information

The 3rd installment to the Avatar Film series (set to release in December of 2024) will reveal the other 15 Navi populations. Cameron has announced that the fire Navi will be a crucial part of the plot line of Avatar 3. Known as the “ash people”, Director Cameron revealed that the fire Navi wouldn’t be as friendly as the Metkayina. We speculate that there will be a sort of Pandoran War between each clan. This would be a fresh change for the franchise, which could end up bearing very positive feedback from fans.

Possible Plotlines of the Upcoming Avatar Sequels:

One possible plot line is a continuation of the conflict between the humans and the Na’vi, with Jake Sully, caught in the middle. The sequel could explore the political and military tension as the humans and the Na’vi continue to battle for control of the planet’s valuable resources. Meaning it could include further exploration of the corporation’s evil intentions to exploit the resources of Pandora.

Another possible plot line is the exploration of Pandora’s diverse and unique ecology. The sequel could take fans deeper into other rainforests, mountains, and oceans of Pandora, introducing new tribes, and ecosystems.
The upcoming sequels could focus on the sacred Tree of Souls and explore the powerful bond Na’vi have with it. Furthermore, the sequel could showcase the beauty and wonder of Pandora’s natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

Combat Update

Minecraft has been very secretive with the releases of the 1.20 snapshots. They chose to release lots of very unrelated things in 1.20. In the snapshots, they added a new mob to the desert village, as well as a new type of wood that has nothing to do with the desert. So the latest update cannot be specifically about one part of the game such as the desert or the jungle. Therefore, many players are guessing the update will be something completely different such as combat. Minecraft has been slowly making combat changes to the shield, axe, and crossbow. Since they are doing it so subtly, it has convinced players that the next major update will be for combat.

Desert and Mesa Update

Another likely possibility is that 1.20 will be a Desert and Mesa biome update. This is because these two biomes are the only ones that haven’t had an update yet, and it would make sense to do it together as they are both very similar biomes. Seeing the camel being added only further convinced players that this will be a Desert and Mesa biome update.

End Update

The End dimension has been barren and neglected ever since the 1.9 updates. Due to 1.16 being the nether update and everything past that being overworld, we are led to believe that the End update is nearing, so why couldn’t it be the 1.20 update?

Dimension update

A new dimension update could be the 1.20 update as well. The reason for this lies in the newly added ancient cities. In the middle of these cities, there is a large portal-shaped structure made of reinforced deepslate. Players are convinced this will eventually be a portal due to the sheer size of the thing and a previous game file leak that called it a portal. Mojang has even come out to say that they will eventually add a new dimension. However, they wish to fill the existing dimensions with lots of structures and items before doing so. This is why we believe although a dimension update is very likely, it probably will not be so soon as 1.20.

The hype around the upcoming Minecraft 1.20 update is never seen before for Minecraft. Everyone seems to be discussing the possibilities of the different themes. This is all due to Mojang’s secrecy while releasing all their snapshots. They are purposefully confusing everyone to surprise them when they eventually release it. We expect 1.20 to be released sometime in early 2023 and we’re sure it will be one of the biggest updates Minecraft has recently had.

God of War: Ragnarok

God of War has been one of the most popular stories ever since the release of God of War (2018). It completely blew all competition out of the water with its incomparable graphics and mechanics. Players felt genuine emotion following the story of Kratos and his son. The fluidity of the fight choreography always left us speechless. Therefore, it’s no surprise that God of War: Ragnarok has amassed such a buzz of excitement. Ragnarok’s release date is the 9th of November on PS4 and PS5.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Warzone was the biggest game during the Covid-19 lockdowns. It followed the craze of other Battle Royales like Fortnite and Apex Legends. However, it didn’t stay in the spotlight for long. Due to the increasing number of hackers that were left unpunished, many players had to stop playing since winning without cheating was so difficult. As soon as lockdowns around the world ended, Warzone was instantaneously irrelevant. In order to bring back attention to Call of Duty’s battle royale side, they’re releasing Warzone 2.0. This new game will introduce many new changes to make the game fresh, those include split gas circles, 2v2 gulags, boats, new vehicles, and no more load-outs.

Hello Neighbor 2

Hello Neighbor was a game released in 2017. It was an eerie game where the premise was to sneak around your neighbor’s house to uncover his dark secrets as he hunts you. After popular Youtubers such as DanTDM, Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, and Ssundee featured the game on their channels, Hello Neighbour blew up and became one of the most-played stealth games. Everyone was interested in the lore of the game because it had such an eerie but playful tone. The end of the game is still a mystery to players to this day, which is why players are very excited for Hello Neighbour 2, set to release on December 6th.

Hogwarts Legacy

Harry potter fans finally have a promising game to look forward to. Although there have been many Harry Potter games in the past, they were all mediocre at best. Seeing the teasers and trailers for Hogwarts Legacy, we believe that we might finally have a good Harry Potter game. Although it’s a shame there is no multiplayer side to it, the mechanics seem very thought-through. We don’t know many details about the lore of the game, which adds to the game’s mystery. We will be able to play this game on most platforms from the 10th of February, 2023.

At the start of the game, players have many character customization options. We now get to play as an Octling or an Inkling with nine different skin tone choices. For an Inkling, there are 16 unique hairstyles, and 8 for Octling. We can even customize our character’s legwear: with 14 different options. If you decide you want to try a different look after finishing your customization, don’t worry, you can always go back and change your character. You can even change from an Octling to an Inkling and vice versa.

Splatoon 3 Story Mode

Further exploring the Splatoon lore, taking where we left off in the Octo Expansion, the single-player mode in Splatoon 3 is called the “Return of the Mammalians”. Although we only saw a teaser for the single-player mode, we can assume it will be the finale of the Splatoon lore. Regardless, after the positive feedback for the previous story modes, we can expect something even greater than before as the grand finale.

A melee Splatoon weapon? Nope. Although this looks like a katana, it has an impressive range where it shoots slashes in quick succession. To shoot a charged slash, hold the shoot button before releasing. Quick slashes are horizontal, while the charged ones are more vertical.

The Stringer

It is a new type of Splatoon bow that shoots three balls of ink at release at medium succession. Players can change the shot depending on if they jump while shooting or stand. While standing, it shoots horizontally; and vertically when jumping.

Tacticooler

The first special weapon on this list is the Tacticooler. The Tacticooler is a dispenser that drops beverages that grant a speed boost. Each Tacticooler can dispense up to four cans so the entire squad can grab one.

Reefslider

This unique weapon is a summonable ride that allows players to charge and slam into an area to explode, splatting ink in a wide radius and dealing lots of damage.

Wave Breaker

The Wave Breaker is another special weapon that, when summoned, will send sonar waves around itself to find players. Upon detecting enemies, the Wave Breaker will damage them. Players can avoid the Wave Breaker by jumping over the waves.

Crab Tank

The Crab Tank is another special ridable. It’s an assault vehicle that can rapidly shoot small ink shots and slowly shoot powerful ones at a long distance.

Trizooka

The Trizooka is a special that fires three powerful arcing ink shots that can travel through players.

Ink Vac

Arguably one of the best support special weapons, the Ink Vac is capable of stopping any ink that is shot toward its vortex. The vortex will also slow any enemy player, making the Ink Vac essential when pushing deep into enemy territory.

Triple Inkstrike

The Triple Inkstrike is a special weapon that shoots three sticky beacons that each summon a temporary ink tornado once stuck to a surface.

Big Bubbler

Another very powerful support special weapon is the Big Bubbler. The Big Bubbler summons a bubble that only lets ally ink shots through- making it crucial in defensive plays.

New Maps in Splatoon 3

Although we haven’t seen all the maps, Nintendo confirmed that there are at least 12 maps. Half of these will be popular maps from Splatoon 1 and 2 and the other half will be completely new.

Tableturf Battles

By far the most unique feature of Splatoon 3, the Tableturf Battle is Splatoon’s own competitive card game. Each card on the board represents a part of the game. The goal of the game is to cover the majority of the board with your cards. 150 confirmed cards will be released, with new ones being added as updates roll out.

Battlefield 2042 not meeting the industry standards

Considering Battlefield 2042 was released at the same time as Halo infinite, fans had expectations of something on par. However, DICE seemed to have just released an unfinished game. There were tremendous amounts of glitch reports and bugs that players experienced worldwide.

Battlefield is known for its well-thought-out campaigns that immerse players into war. For an unknown reason, Battlefield 2042 disregarded that tradition and didn’t include any sort of campaign. Being a strictly multiplayer game, it should be better than Halo infinite’s multiplayer game, right? Sadly, this isn’t the case. DICE released a barely functioning mediocre premium FPS (first-person shooter). Battlefield 2042 seemed like a cash grab riding on the vast anticipation before the game’s release.

Lack of innovation

There were no notable features added that separated Battlefield 2042 from the rest. At the end of the day, it just seemed like any other game on the market. Players hated it so much that there was a petition demanding a refund for all Battlefield 2042 owners- which received over 200,000 signatures; this shows how much of a failure Battlefield 2042 was.

Even as the game matured, the developers simply patched the bugs and glitches without progressing the game and giving something new to players. They spent all their time launching updates that made the game playable instead of inviting players. Hopefully, this was a test game for DICE. Although it was an unstable game, it had features that Battlefield never explored, such as using futuristic gadgets. If the developers learn from their mistakes in this game, the next game could be a hit for the Battlefield franchise if the futuristic aspects are matured and integrated smoothly.

Closing thoughts

This game was a flop. There’s no going around that fact. It’s clear that there wasn’t much effort spent on developing the game. That is no excuse since there was no obvious effort spent on innovating the game. There has been a semi-official announcement from a trusted source that a new Battlefield game is in development and we can expect further information in 2023. The release may be in late 2023 or 2024. We have high hopes for this game since it cannot be any worse than Battlefield 2042.

New Type of Adventure in Scarlet and Violet

Unlike every previous game, the player does not have to embark on the usual journey. We have more choices- more specifically, there are three different story roads that we can take. One of them is the one everyone is familiar with; beating the gyms and taking down an evil organization. However, we now get to choose which order we tackle the gyms. This is a confusing detail as it means that the usual gym power scaling cannot work since players can choose to battle the same gyms at different parts of the game.

Although we are unaware of the other two-story paths, we know that we can jump between them as we wish. Clearly, Game Freak is trying to introduce a more open-world adventure to Pokemon. If executed well, there is no reason for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet not to be massive hits.

The Paldea Region

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet both take place in the Paldea Region. Inspired by Spain’s architecture and landscape, it will be one of the most diverse Pokemon regions ever. The main city of Paldea is Mesagoza, which is home to the school of the story. The player will either be a part of Naranja Academy or Uva Academy- depending on which game they play.

The Terastalize Mechanic

Wild Pokemon found in the Paldea region have a chance to be terastalized. Players can easily identify them by the glowing Terra stone above their head that changes depending on which type of Terastalization the Pokemon uses. This mechanic grants the Pokemon special combat abilities that are impossible for non-Paldea native Pokemon.

Players can also take on powerful wild Terastalized pokemon with other players. This is a Tera Raid Battle where a team of up to 4 can take on wild Pokemon. There is a time limit for each battle, forcing players to be coordinated together to minimize the time taken to defeat the wild pokemon.

Closing thoughts

Scarlet and Violets’ game features differ drastically from the previous games. This can either make or break the games. If done right, they can be rated as two of the greatest Pokemon games. Many fans are very excited about the new storyline style where we have more freedom in our Pokemon adventures. However, changing the story structure would mean that the gameplay will be very unique to previous games. Whether that is good or bad, we will have to wait and see.

Multiversus’s Characters

Although the developers chose a competitive genre dominated by Nintendo (Super Smash Bros), Multiversus seems to be stealing the spotlight. The main reason for it is the crossovers in the game. Childhood characters such as Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo can now fight? It gives no reason for people not to play.

As previously stated, many fictional worlds crossover. Lots of them are worthy of being considered household names. The most popular ones are- DC, Scooby-Doo, Game of Thrones, and many Cartoon Network shows. Therefore, calling this a colossal crossover is an understatement.

Multiversus Sponsored Content

Multiversus has amassed a following of 377,000 people on Twitch in its first month of being released. It has done this through many sponsorships. One streamer, in particular, Hasanabi, gave a very straightforward opinion. He claimed that Multiversus is “infinitely better than 90% of the content that Warner Bros have put out”.

On Youtube, Multiversus has sponsored the well-known YouTube group, Sidemen. A video of them playing Multiversus has garnered 2.4 million Views. This, along with other YouTubers such as Ssundee, Ishowspeed, and Penguinz0, have massively helped Multiversus gain the attention of many players.

Free To Play

Following the trend first popularised by Fortnite, Multiversus is free to play, giving it an edge over games such as Super Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat since they cost money to play.

Multiversus has two forms of in-game currency. Gold is obtained by playing the game and completing missions, and has less value than Gleamium. Gleamium can only be purchased with real money. Players can unlock new characters using either Gold or Gleamium. This means that players will either have to play the game or spend money to unlock characters, making it enjoyable for everyone.

Closing Thoughts

While Multiversus has taken the gaming scene by storm, it is unclear whether it will stand the test of time or not. Many players have issues with the game as it is still in the early stages. If the players have a voice, Multiversus has no reason not to become the number one game in its genre. Not to mention, there are tons of other characters owned by Warner Bros. that can help keep the game fresh and pull in new players.

The focus of Terraria 1.4.4

The main aim of the 1.4.4 update is to bring more balance and introduce small changes to increase the quality of life. Some examples of such changes are: the Angler now has a chance to reward players with furniture items, buffs gained from the Crystal Ball, and Sharpening Stones now last till death.

Although Re-Logic wanted to keep 1.4.4 short and sweet (because they are also working on a new Terraria game), they have added a few items and content to the game.

Item changes introduced 1.4.4

The Dark lance now does 34 damage as opposed to the 24 it did before. It also has around 20% more reach and now inflicts the Shadowflame debuff.

The only changes to the Frostbrand were to its projectiles: they now shoot more often and induce the Frostburn debuff.

The Flairon’s bubbles last 33% more time and have a 30% more detection range.
Scourge of the Corruptor now has a higher number of Minieaters, and they move faster.

The Star Wrath now conjures more than one Falling Star at a time, drastically increasing the damage done on average.

Content updates in Terraria 1.4.4

One Plantera bulb spawns immediately right after defeating the three mechanical bosses.

Bast statues can now generate in the underground Desert Cabins.

You can right-click the Eternia Crystal stand to skip the waiting time between each wave.

The prices of most items purchased using defender medals are reduced by around 35%.

The Ammo Box and Bewitching table buffs now last until death.

Sentries last for two minutes instead of ten.

Pirates now have double the chance of dropping very rare loot. The Flying Dutchman also has a significantly higher chance of dropping items, in addition to always dropping one gold furniture item.

Both paintings and statues will glow while using Spelunker Potions.

Sneak Peek Item

Re-Logic released a gif where a player picks up an item named “Resplendent Dessert”, which unites both baby slime pets and allows the player to spawn both at once. This is all of the important information Re-Logic have released about 1.4.4. However, we know that this will only be a small update that will allow them to put Terraria aside so they can work on releasing their second game.

New Structures and Biomes

Minecraft 1.19 introduces two new biomes: the Mangrove Swamp and the Deep Dark. The Mangrove Swamp is a variant of the usual Swamp that only contains the new Mangrove trees. 

The Deep Dark is an underground biome where the different skulk blocks and Warden lie. Inside the Deep Dark is the Ancient City: a new structure containing chests with loot that is unique to the Ancient City. One example of that is the Echo Shard.

New Items

We can craft the Recovery Compass by combining Echo Shards with a compass. This Recovery Compass points to the user’s last death.

Goats can now drop their horn when they ram into blocks. The goat horn can produce one of the eight sounds goats make when ramming into blocks. 

We can now craft a boat with a chest on it. Although only one passenger can fit, this new boat is useful for moving lots of items early game.

New Blocks

With the addition of a new wood block: the Mangrove, comes all the wooden items such as boats, doors, and trapdoors. Something unique about the Mangrove tree is the roots beneath its trunk- which can be broken and picked up. These root blocks also have a “muddy” version of them. Speaking of muddy, there are now mud blocks. Players can combine these mud blocks with wheat to craft packed mud. Those packed mud blocks can then create mud brick blocks. We can easily obtain mud by using water bottles on dirt blocks.

In the new Deep Dark biome are the skulk, the skulk catalyst, and the skulk shrieker. The skulk block is the ground block in the Deep Dark. The skulk catalyst spreads skulk whenever a mob dies near it. The skulk shrieker is a block that can sense sound to alert the warden (it also sends a Redstone signal when it detects sound).

Frogs found in the new Mangrove Swamp drop froglight blocks when they attempt to digest a small magma cube.

The Mobs

Found in the Deep Dark, guarding the loot- is the Warden. This scary mini-boss is nearly unbeatable, forcing players to work around the mob instead of fighting it. It can kill players in under three melee shots, even with full netherite. The Warden also utilizes a low damaging shriek as a ranged attack.

Found in the Mangrove Swamp are the frogs that come in different colors depending on their environment. They produce slime balls when they consume small slime cubes and froglight blocks when they consume small magma cubes. Frogs, unlike other animals, grow from tadpoles rather than a baby version of them. To transport the tadpoles, players can capture them in water buckets.

Trapped in Woodland Mansions and Pillager Outposts, the Allay is a flying mob that finds items similar to the one given to it by a player. Players can control where the Allay drops the items using note blocks. This mob will finally allow players to create a system to sort non-stackable items.

What was Operation Monarch?

The event was a big-scale challenge to players. There were 60 players in each event match, each team consisting of 4 players. Squad members could revive as long as at least one member was alive. Completing all the challenges would earn them a Legendary blueprint: SVT-40 “Ancient Rivalry”. Each completed challenge rewarded the players with rare, epic, and legendary items.

During Operation Monarch, the player had to choose a side: King Kong or Godzilla. It didn’t matter which side they chose as it all depended on the performance of each team. The challenges were as follows: to deal 1,350,000 damage to their opposing monster during the Titan Frenzy events, to deal 500,000 damage to Titans, to play Operation Monarch for 6 hours (they knew exactly what they were doing with this challenge), to collect 3,000 Monarch Intel, to use the titan S.C.R.E.A.M device kill streak once and thrice, and finally to place top 30% 12 times. All these challenges were carefully curated to ensure player retention.

It was a very well-integrated event with a large budget. However, did it regain Warzone’s popularity as they hoped?

What Operation Monarch did for CoD: Warzone

Sadly, the event was a major flop for the Call of Duty franchise. Many players criticized that the event took away from the realism that CoD always delivers. It was an undisputed loss as the CoD account took to Twitter and asked the fans directly whether it was good or bad. The results were painful; 70% of people said it was an “L” rather than a “W”. The event underwhelmed every Warzone player. It just seems that games such as Warzone, which aims for realism in its gameplay, will not do well with such alien crossovers where it completely changes the game into something else.

Many players didn’t even bother tuning in for the event as they already knew that Warzone’s time in the spotlight was over. However, don’t let this fool you. CoD: Warzone is still one of the biggest battle royale games around as of now. Its time in the first place has ended. Warzone now joined the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends- where it stands as an established game with a core loyal fanbase.

Closing thoughts

This event was not successful in any way. However, it did prove something right. You cannot force things into a game. The crossover was too much of a stretch for such a realistic game. They took a risk and paid the price for not succeeding. Hopefully, CoD and other games learn from this mistake and always aim to withhold their usual game feel even when introducing new events.

Valorant’s settings 

You can boost your fps by a reasonable amount most of the time just by turning down your graphics settings (Note that this is mostly for players who get below 100 fps). If your game already runs anywhere above that: turning down settings won’t increase the fps a significant amount because your system can run the game smoothly with the higher settings already. However, do keep in mind that turning off certain settings such as the shadows may jeopardize your gameplay as you will no longer see your opponents’ shadows. Turning off or lowering most other aesthetic settings will increase your fps but make will make your game lose the crisp quality it had. Another thing that may be limiting your fps is the “limit fps” setting. Be sure to turn this off to get the highest fps. 

That was the simple manner of boosting your fps. If that wasn’t good enough for your needs, there is also another way to increase your fps- and that is to optimize the way your computer runs Valorant. 

PC Optimisation for higher fps in Valorant

Now there is a tough pill to be swallowed here. If your PC is simply not good enough to run Valorant effectively, no amount of optimization can really enhance the fps. Make sure your PC has at least the minimum requirements to run the game. These are listed below:

• Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz / AMD Athlon 200GE
• RAM: 4 GB
• OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
• GPU: Intel HD 4000 / Radeon R5 20
• VRAM- 1000 MB

If you have these or anything better than these, your PC should be able to run Valorant. However, it will run very poorly. The recommended specs are as follows- 

• Processor: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz / AMD FX-6100
• RAM: 4 GB
• OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
• GPU: GeForce GT 730 / Radeon R7 240
• VRAM: 1000 MB

Your PC should be able to run the game decently well if you have the specs above or anything better. If your PC does not meet the requirements, it’s time to upgrade to something better. If it does, great! Now we can move on and talk about how you can optimize your PC while playing Valorant. The first thing to make sure of is to close any unnecessary applications that may be running in the background. Having lots of applications running at the same time can significantly drag your performance down. There are also some ways to optimize the way your PC runs the game by changing some settings. 

For NVIDIA users:

1. Search for “adjust image settings” under the 3D Settings category 
2. Click on the “Use my preference emphasizing”, move the slider to performance and click apply.

Some more steps you can take to improve fps are:

1. Go into “manage 3D settings”
2. Click “program settings” and add settings for Valorant
3. Configure these settings- 

• Antistrophic Filtering – Off
• Antialiasing – Off
• Refresh Rate – Controlled by Program
• Energy Mode – Maximum Performance
• Low Latency Mode – On
• Multi-Frame Sampled  AA – Off
• Vertical V-Sync – Off
• Pre-Rendered Frames – 1

1. Ensure that your drivers are up to date for Valorant by going into G-Force Experience

For Windows users:

1. Launch Valorant and open “Task Manager”
2. Click “Details” in the tab section and search for “Valorant-Win64-shipping.exe and right-click on it, click “Set-Priority” and set it to “High”
3. Redo steps 1 and 2, but this time search for “Valorant.exe” and set the priority to High. (Note that you will have to do this every time you reopen Valorant. 

That concludes the things you can do to get the best fps on Valorant. If none of these does enough for you, consider getting a better PC or just a monitor with a higher refresh rate. Only get a better monitor if you can see that the fps that your PC runs are higher than your current monitor’s refresh rate.

Possible plot points of The Batman sequel

The Batman (2022) only scratched the surface of the immense corruption that takes place in Gotham city. Therefore it’s safe to assume that we will see an even deeper side to the corruption that Batman has to face. This is a lot different from the other crime-fighting scenarios. Instead of simply defeating the next “bad guy” the hero is met with, he has to fight the messed-up system. Robert Pattinson’s Batman definitely tackles a lot more politics than the other Batmen’s. People don’t seem to hate it as it’s already the highest-grossing movie in 2022.

That being said, surely we’ll see more of the Penguin in the sequel. You would imagine that the sequel would be based around the Joker and the Riddler as the ending of The Batman clearly hinted at it. Sadly, director Matt Reeves announced that the Joker and the Riddler will be explored deeper in the upcoming HBO Max show based on the Arkham-Asylum.

Possible characters

Obviously, Robert Pattinson will be playing Batman in the sequel (hopefully, otherwise it would make it quite strange). More excitingly, it may not be a reach to say that we can hope to see Robin on the screen once again. How else would DC make this Batman stand out from the others? Most other plausible answers are less likely and this type of corruption-fighting requires a trusty sidekick. It’s not confirmed but it seems very possible, maybe DC is finally willing to use their trump card to try and keep up with the previous Batmen sagas.

Closing thoughts

We don’t know any definite facts about the sequel to The Batman (2022). However, we also know some things are more possible than others. Director Reeves said that the sequel will definitely come out in the next 5 years. This may seem like a long time but they promised other content surrounding Gotham. For example, the Arkham-Asylum-based HBO Max TV show.

Halo Infinite open-world style 

Halo surprised everyone by turning the normal maps into an open world in the single-player campaign. This gives the game a much fresher feel and allows the players to experience the game more personally as we have more freedom in battle. Although the game changed the map style, it doesn’t change much of the gameplay (when it does, it is enhancing). 

This new map style allows for a wider range of combat and utilities by allowing the player to explore the map at their own pace. One of those new utilities is the Grappleshot. It allows the players to grapple into places and also pull weapons and other items. It sounds very simple and dull, but the possibilities are endless and this new ability can help create the most satisfying combos.

Although the map in Halo infinite is more open-world, that doesn’t mean the player can just go wherever, whenever they want. Most of the map is locked when you first start and you have to complete missions to unlock other parts. This creates a seamless transition between freedom and the storyline, giving the player the feeling that they are making the story. 

Challenging bosses 

The bosses in this game do not hold back. All the bosses are challenging in their own way with an intelligent AI that doesn’t allow you to rest. They each also have a unique ability that you will have to learn to counter and fight against. For example, there is Bassus, a Banished Brute with the Gravity Hammer. This battle is especially difficult since he tries to rush the player with his melee moves. Using different utilities and making a game plan to keep the distance is very crucial in defeating Bassus. 

Boss fights in Halo Infinite are definitely the most awe-inspiring parts. The amount of detail put into every fight is insane. Plus the player can fight each boss with different difficulties depending on their skill level: therefore creating lots of possible approaches to defeat them.

Halo Infinite multiplayer gameplay

Halo Infinite has many different game modes with varying player numbers allowed. For example, you can play the modes Capture The Flag and Slayer with a team of 4 or a team of 12. Most of the modes are basic and old but they’ve been remade more dramatic and exciting. 

The genius map designs also play a big part in the fun of multiplayer. It seems as if each part of the map was carefully thought out for specific purposes. The specific design is crucial to the new Grappleshot as older map styles would not have been very compatible with the new ability. However more fun multiplayer is now, it is much more intricate and chaotic as there is more to learn in this game than in the previous ones. 

Closing thoughts

Halo Infinite definitely nailed many aspects of this game such as the boss fights, the Grappleshot, and the map style. The game doesn’t waste time with other playable characters as well, making the game feel more personal. Overall, Halo infinite’s drastic changes from previous games paid off pretty well as they gave a very fresh feel to the game.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

An Avatar game? We were just as shocked. Set to release sometime in 2022 (being optimistic), from what we’ve seen so far, Ubisoft has put its all into the art and animation. This game is no small deal as even Disney has a part in its creation. We just hope it doesn’t get postponed 10 times like Avatar 2.

The Callisto Protocol

Being one of the few promising horror games, The Callisto Protocol is a survival game with gruesomely realistic graphics. Due to one of the creators being Glen Schofield, fans of his previous work, Dead Space, are very excited as the studios promised “the scariest”. The Callisto Protocol will be a third-person game with a strong storyline. It will be available to play on Xbox, Playstation, and PC. We know so far that the game will take place 300 hundred years in the future on one of Jupiter’s moons. The game’s main objective will likely be to survive against the terrifying alien race. Not much else has been announced as “mystery is part of the importance”.

Dune: Spice Wars

Hoping on capitalizing on the popular movie, Dune, Shiro Games has made a strategic game out of Frank Herbert’s novel. Set to release in April, players will be able to play as one of the 4 factions. Players can achieve Victory through wars, deceit, and politics. This game will explore many untapped aspects of strategy games.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a mysterious action game. It may seem like a horror game, but don’t let it fool you. The tension is there to increase the dramatic effect of the ghost city. The game perfectly captures the beauty of the Japanese capital city and adds a very futuristic met traditional style. This title is easily one of the most unique to be released this year. Most of the population in Tokyo has disappeared and you have to fight the ghosts that remain to uncover the truth. Ghostwire: Tokyo is available to play on PlayStation 5 and PC.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights is set in the DC universe after the passing of Batman (Bruce Wayne). Players will be able to play as one of the 4 sidekicks: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood in order to protect Gotham city. The best part is that Gotham Knights allows co-op, meaning that you form a hero group and fight the criminals together. Set to release on October 25th, Gotham Knights will be available on PC, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox series X, S, and One.

Hogwarts Legacy

Finally! A serious Harry Potter game. Seeing as we waited 2 decades for this, it should mean that Warner Bros. perfected this game. Harry Potter fans will be able to live the magical lives they’ve been dreaming of ever since the release of the books and movies. Whilst you can go to Hogwarts and be a good magic student, you will also have the option to team up with the death eaters and use dark magic. The possibilities with Hogwarts Legacy are endless, we just hope it doesn’t end up being like the other Harry Potter “games”.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

After a 2 year break, another installment to the 20+ year game franchise is here. It seems like classics never die out as just after a week after the release- the game tops many lists. Even with all the new graphics and 3rd designs, Kirby somehow manages to retain its classic look, but makes it even better. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available on the Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

Another classic game with a new installment, Zelda is one of the most popular franchises among the Nintendo fans. Being the sequel to the first Breath of the Wild game (considered to be one of Nintendo’s greatest works), Breath of Wild 2 has a lot to live up to. The teasers and snapshots show vibrant and realistic lighting while maintaining that classic Nintendo cartoon look. Fans are very eager to hear more about Breath of the Wild 2, but Nintendo has been secretive about it.  We can expect more information about the release date in the summer.

Splatoon 3

Nintendo is releasing many sequels to their most popular games this year. Splatoon is a game most of us forgot about until the announcement of the 3rd installment. This family-friendly series was one of the most played games in 2017 and 2018. The simplicity and vibrant nature of the games make it very easy to lose track of time. Just as before, there will be competitive multiplayer available. There will also be single-player story-mode gameplay. Set to release sometime in late 2022, Splatoon 3 will be available on the Nintendo Switch.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

The Suicide Squad, consisting of Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, And Captain Boomerang, has a new mission: to kill the Justice League. In this battle-adventure game, you get to play as one of the members and fight a brainwashed Justice League. Just like Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is playable in either single-player or 4 person co-op. Set to release sometime in late 2022, it will be available on Xbox, Playstation, and PC.

Horizon Forbidden West’s Plot

Horizon Forbidden West’s story starts with a plague that is ravaging humanity: the Blight. In hopes of finding a cure to the plague, Aloy travels to the “Forbidden West”. Shock. It’s called the “forbidden west” because of the unforgiving lands of California and the aggressive Tenakth tribe that inhabits it.

Friends from the previous game: Erend and Varl accompany Aloy on her treacherous journey. Furthermore, Horizon Forbidden West focuses more on human emotions and explores the depths of each character and their relationships. Creating more unrest in the group, allowing for more character development.  During the long journey Aloy takes into the new territories, the stunning graphics are flaunted everywhere available. . This distance helps humanize Aloy and provides a reason for them to strengthen their bonds.

Horizon Forbidden West’s look and feel

Forbidden West had a step up in the visual department. Step up is an understatement, it’s more of a leap. Even the new God of War dulls in comparison to the use of lighting in Horizon Forbidden West. Don’t let the game’s visuals distract you though. In comparison to the previous game, Forbidden West explored a lot more of the beautiful Sci-Fi lands. The in-game world compared to the real world is much more compact. This isn’t a bad thing as it allows the game to have a more concentrated amount of significance.

Aloy’s movement is much more complicated and faulty in Horizon Forbidden West. Although you can fine-tune movement settings more than in the previous game, the mechanics are much more difficult. Aloy now behaves more like a human, making mistakes and missing jumps even if you are aiming flawlessly. This adds to the humanizing effect Guerrilla Games clearly aims to achieve.

Combat Mechanics

There is no getting around it. Fighting is much more difficult to master in this sequel. However, once you do master it, the flow is much more watery and satisfying. As mentioned before, Aloy is now prone to make more mistakes just like us in the real world. This makes mastery ever more challenging.

While it may be boring or tiresome to fight other human enemies such as the ones from the Tenakth tribe: the fights against robot enemies showcase the new combat mechanics. Tough enemies that are usually tiresome can now be satisfyingly defeated using just a few traps from your wide range of equipment. Combat has a lot more depth in Horizon Forbidden West due to the new elemental weakness and strength factors.

Closing thoughts

although the movement mistakes that Aloy makes can get very redundant and unnecessary, the game is overall very enjoyable. Even though there isn’t as much emphasis on the action, the storytelling in Horizon Forbidden West is top tier as it explores each character in more depth than ever before. Not to mention, the breathtaking graphics (especially the new lighting) are levels ahead of most games so far. It’s clear that a lot of effort and budget was put into the development of Horizon Forbidden West. Hopefully, the next installment (if there is a chapter 3) will continue to build on the enriched characters explored during this game.

Sifu’s Fighting Mechanics

Although Sifu isn’t a breakthrough game bringing something never seen before, the fighting mechanics are revolutionary. The fight scenes are very movie-like in the sense that it flows like a movie scene rather than a normal level in a beat ‘em up. However, unlike in the movies, the enemies definitely do not wait their turn and try to kill you in any way they can. This opens up a lot more opportunities for the gameplay to be different for different people. Normally, in beat ‘em ups, the player doesn’t have many chances to customize their experience and go through the story their own way. Whereas in Sifu, you are given some basic fight moves and are thrown into the action to figure out your own path to victory.

Even though there’s no set way to win the game, it does not make winning any easier. You have to first figure out a route to success and then execute it near flawlessly. Otherwise, you will end up getting beat up and losing years. After earning some exp, the player can choose to spend it on learning other skill moves that give you more options in very specific situations. One example is a skill set that allows the player to counter attacks while knocked down on the floor.

The game’s use of the environment is also very movie-like. Unlike in other games where the backdrop is just aesthetic, in Sifu, the player can use railings, barricades, pipes, and just about anything you can think of to your advantage. You can vault also over large objects (even movable ones).  And there’s more, you can kick up small objects such as pipes and throw them, just like in the martial arts movies!

The Sifu Story

As stated before, the player is free to play through the story how they like- or to better word it, how they discover the clues. In order to find the different levels, you must find certain clues. The game does not just lead you to the clues either. You find them as you progress and not everyone finds them in the same order; meaning that the levels aren’t in sequence. The player is free to replay each level if desired (this is useful in case you discover more clues for a level that make it easier to beat).

Despite the fact that the idea of a revenge story is nothing unique, the use of time and the 5 main targets give a sense of freshness while playing the game. Usually, games are shrouded with good and bad and fighting for the sake of humanity. However, in Sifu, the main character is fighting for the most selfish reason- revenge. This still doesn’t stop the feeling that you’re fighting as the “good guy” though. The sense of satisfaction you get after finishing each level makes you feel one with the character. For example, the frustration you both share towards the boss (but your’s is from the actual fight).

Moreover, the use of time in Sifu is a factor that sets it apart from other games in the market. Just like in other beat ‘em ups, after dying, you’re allowed to respawn right from where you left off. However, here you age a year each time you die. This is important as although your experience increases, you become weaker and have less total health. If you (somehow) manage to die enough times to reach the age of 70, respawning will no longer be available.

Closing Thoughts

Sifu is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Everyone who plays experiences lots of frustration due to the difficulty of the game. Regardless of your past gaming experiences, struggling is inevitable to get the hang of the game: but once you do it is very rewarding to beat the enemies up with the water-like flow of attacks. The uniqueness to how the player loses in the game, the special use of the environment, and the other factors explained before on how the game differs from others in its genre are what add up to make such a successful and addictive game.
